View Full Version : My car is a Whinner!
I have been hearing this whinning coming from my car that goes up and down with the revs. I would hear it on and off for a while and now I have finally pinpointed its origin. This whinning is coming from the trunk. Is this my fuel pump? If that is the case, where do I stand as far as how long it will last?
My other question is, can I order one out of a summit catalouge that is for turbo motors with out worring about over kill in the fuel department, as I will not be bilding a turbo kit for quite a while since I have no money and no job? Oh yeah, if I don't get this fixed for a while (the no money thing) is there any chance of a freak explosion and me dying a horriable fiery death?"usuk:

This maybe a stupid question but are you sure its not coming from your speakers. I had a friend that had that problem once.

I've never seen or even heard about the stereo picking up interference from the engine on an Integra before, so I don't think that's it. Afaik, that's a problem common to older cars (especially AM radios), but not modern ones.
I believe the fuel pump is below your rear seat in the center (right under that plastic tray thing). So, if it's coming from further back, then it may be something else. In which case, the only thing I can think of back there that's directly by RPMs is the exhaust, which I doubt would make a whining noise.

Suspension maybe?? Exhaust hanger busted? I cant think of too many things that would do that.

Weren't you just having stereo problems? Check the stereo first.
Yes I was just having stereo problems, and I did just get an amp and some subs, but I have heard that noise before I got all that. I will look into it some more, sometimes it is louder than others, and I can only hear it with the radio down.
Can I get a new fuel pump anyway? Will it have any adverse affects on my when it is not really souped up?

turn off the radio... if its still there, pull your amp fuse... Sounds an awfully lot like a stereo noise problem, or as my old boss called it
"an audiable tach for the visually impaired"
