:werd: Stu adjusts fields all day long... well, when he isn't unintentionally clicking on gay pr0n on HAI.
I don't work in the field but I can probably answer most of your questions.
There are basically two types of styles when it comes to claims.
1) You get a file and do all the work on it and finish it out until it is closed.
2) This type is more like an assembly line where you are still the main file handler, but different departments handle different parts of the claim.
#2 is what I do. I'm the main file handler, but a different department handles the actual estimates and any field inspection. I make all the liability decisions and speak with everyone.
Let me know what questions you have.

I pretty much do what you do, the "main file handler", cept i dont have to worry about liability or medical (already did that). Right now I handle total and fire losses for vehicles.
What I want some info on is people out in the field, theres a few opportunities from other companys that are hiring for homeowner field reps right now...so just wanted to get another persons view on the job...
At my company (Allied) if you are in the field as an auto adjuster, you only handle the repairs and payment of that vehicle. However, the property field guys handle the whole file from start to finish. They also have a few multi-line reps, but I think they are phasing them out to something more specialized.
My dad is a fire inspector/detective and says that car fires are almost impossible to prove as intentional even when you basically know they are.
