Ok, so I know someone that I can get a boost controller from for 150 bucks, and I could get the boost up to about 13lbs (from my stock 8lbs0.
Should I get it since it's cheap and it'll be a while before I can get chipped, or should I just wait for a chip? I'd like a little more power now, but I don't know...I guess I could always sell the boost controller when I get chipped.
any opinions?
thanks

dont wast your time with the boost controller. You might gain 3-4 tenths in the 1/4 where as a chip you gain a full sec. easy... My buddy with an awp got the split second and he lost power. His best time is 15.3 w/dp, cb, boost controler. His trap speeds are only like 90-91

I know that we talked about that before, but how did he lose power by turning up the boost?? that doesn't make sense to me...

I think that guy has deeper issues. Go for the boost controller for now until you can afford the chip. There is no way you wil lose power unless you turn the boost up way too high. You will gain more from the chip (because of the timing advance) but this will be a good jump for now.
BTW you can just use a bleeder valve between the wastegate and n75 or get a manual controller.........

that's the way I'm looking at it, true, if you turn the boost up too high then I can see the problem. with the SS BCS, it only allows you to turn it up to a certain amount, so that's not a huge concern. It'd just be nice to turn it from from 8 to say 12 when I need a little extra kick...we'll see, I still haven't decided what I'm gonna do...
I thought about the manual as well, but I'd rather have the control inside the car

I know a guy who has a manual boost controller that he controls from inside the car. It's a pretty sweet little set-up. If your looking for power now, I would definately go with the boost controller. I'm pretty sure this guy would give you a hand setting up a manual controller inside the car.

I'll probably just hang back until I get the Split Second BCS, I never really race and need that power. If I do tho I'll let you know.
Thanks

I think he lost power with the boost controller because he turned up the boost with out reseting the a/f ratio. I think that is the main problem.

Save for the chip, it'll be worth it. Download free porn, save cash for mods!

Hmmm being that our cars have a MAF the ecu should adapt to that fairly well unless you go crazy with boost. Either way I agree that a chip is the best way to go :)

get the boost controller man. It is cheap and I highly doubt you will get slower. I can also agreee with everyone else that the chip is the best way to go, but for 50 or 150 what do you have to lose if you are on a budget. See this is what I have found wrong in the VW community, people listen to something that one person says and they all go with it. Brian and I were discussing that people need to ease up a little and try the more conventional ways to make power, i.e. just put a bigger turbo on. It has been done in the DSM world for a long time now. I dont see why it wouldn't work just fine.
Is the car a 1.8t? I agree with shane - spend the $50 and get the hallman.

If I had a 1.8t I'd sure do the boost controller & boost gauge first. Why? Because I could.

the boost controller will work fine. you should see nice gains although less than a chip. I would guess about 30 hp increase which is pretty darg good for only $150 IMO
