Well, it finally happened again. CEL came on yesterday. Didn't surprise me too much I noticed something was a little off with the car. It didn't feel very powerful and at idle the engine makes a slight thumping (kinda like a V8, i'd say). Today I checked the code and it said 45.
from http://www.vtecnik-si.com/index2.htm
i get this explaination:
System too lean/rich
Fuel supply system, Primary O2 sensor, MAP sensor, contaminated fuel, valve clearance, exhaust leakage
I've had my CEL come on a few times in the past due to the engine running rich. First time was a few days after I first got my car. Had it towed to the dealership and they replace the O2 sensor (primary, i believe)
SOLUTIONS:
1.)Get some gauges so i'll know what is going one.
2.)J&S or VAFC hack or something
3.)Give me some input please
thanks

If you had your 02 sensor replaced, it was probably because you were running too rich for so long.
I'd suggest b&m fuel gauge to adjust your fuel properly. Do you have the map controller?, if not get it. I might have one for sale here soon.

I agree with that, those would both be good tools to have as well. Definately get the gauge too, are you running other gauges as well?

no gauges. i'm positive i'm running rich. it's always been rich. even when i idle in my driveway back home it'll start smelling like gas.
won't the map controller make it run richer? i think it lowers the fuel pressure. not sure.

yeah the map controller will make you run a little rich at WOT, but you'll be able to set your ignition timing to stock or even advance it a bit( meaning more low end power with no detonation). You'll be able to turn down your fuel pressure with a fuel gauge(b&m $20-30 if I remember correctly). Maybe Brian or Steve can give you more info.

thanks Hector. you say you might be selling yours soon? what are you going to use instead?
Is the timing easy to adjust? I've always wanted to learn how to adjust my timing (with a timing gun, of course).

Advance the heck out of the timing, get a map controller, and turn the fuel way down :). All at once of course or kaboom!!

can the engine kaboom with too much fuel? I thought it just made it run bad.
What kind of gas mileage does/did everyone with their s/c Si?
I've noticed that the harder i drive my car the better mileage i get. about 30 mpg instead of 26-27.

WTF? hehe.. I get like 25ish regularly if I'm on it hard, usually 32 if I'm never on it, and over 40 on the highway. The high flow cat in all actuality really helps the MPG.

You can detonate with too much fuel, but I wouldn't be overly concerned about that. Your gas mileage sounds about right.

You have to remember that we are also making 60-80 more hp than your car is so the MPG will be effected.....

yeah i'm selling the SI, so i'll be parting out with all the stuff. If Tobi doesn't buy the map controller from me then i'll sell it to you, if you want.
check this site out for adjusting the timing, the b&m fuel gauge is there too. :) http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto.html

What are you saying, I should get better or worse MPG? I'd think better.

Yeah, you should definetly be getting better than ours :)

yeah, but I think it's still running rich as hell, even at idle. That's why I got the cartech to drop the fuel pressure rise rate. It should then be good for mid 15s provided I can sort of tune it without the dyno for IDRC, and then dyno it later in the winter both with and without N2O.
