what map sensor should i buy
i have hondata and but i'm not sure what sensor to buy. motec or GM gm is a little cheaper but i have noticed they are a little difficult to tune with when compared to the motec
any advice on which one to use

The GM sensor's resolution isn't that great... hence why I'm using an AEM MAP sensor. :)

We use Motec and GM, for higher boost applications which need more linear reesolution we use the AEM 3.5bar.

Have you guys tried any of the AEM 5 bar sensors? I'm curious since my friend is running one with no problems.

tobi, do you have a preference between motec or gm cause i only saw the gm on your website

I use a ton of the GM ones. It took a lot of practice but I can tune around its shortcomings. Especially on our dyno, we can map out the voltage range using our high speed 5 bar MAP sensor to compare the two. The Motecs take too long to order, but I can get them. I havent used and AEM in a while (they are a little more expensive) but my warehouse has them in stock.

yo i am running map as well the map that aem has is the thing as the gm 3 bar aem just buys then resales them i say gm

Um, no they are not the same. Extensive testing and comparisons have been made in this area. I think you are mistaken becuase they LOOK the same. THey just use the same case. I can assure you the stability of the signal and consistancy of the pressure to voltage curve are totally different.

I've noticed that as well, and the GM sensor gets worse the more boost that you run.
I used to use the GM 3BAR, but now I use the AEM 3.5BAR because it is linear and calibrated.

Right. Below 16psi the GM is pretty good, after that it becomes kind of flat in its voltage curve making it harder to tune higher boost levels. I wish I still had that graph I made around here. I will try to look for it.

I didn't graph its response, but I did take a picture of the results of using one and assuming it's response is linear:

What kind of boost was that on? Did you datalog the MAP voltage and boost level seperately so you could determine the offset between the two?

I was messing with my boost controller at the track. The EMS said I was running 22-23 PSI, and I didn't think to look at the boost guage until it was too late, and it only goes to 30, which is where it was going to. I did notice that I had to crank my boost controller up more and more to get one more PSI out of the turbo, but I was thinking my boost controller was being flaky. I had boost cut set at 25 PSI, so I figured that would keep me out of too much trouble, but it was referenced to my POS GM 3BAR sensor. Boost logging was only done from the GM MAP sensor, so I don't have a reference to know how far off it was.
I thought about running some voltage to it and connecting it to a pressure regulator off of my compressor to see how far off it was, but the AEM sensor wasn't too expensive and it's calibrated and gauranteed to be linear throughout it's range, so I just chucked the GM sensor and now I only use AEM sensors for anything over 10 PSI.
I will say that the car was fast as hell for the first 1/8 mile. I was getting a lot of preignition in the back 1/8, enough to kill the power from the motor, and I was still running 12.0's. That was the first time that I had experienced serious preignition and I had no idea what it felt like, I thought that I was having ignition problems and kept running it:killtard:

Knock knock.. who eees eeet?.... BAM! New pistons!
I stock the GM and AEMs now, but because of the price the GMs sell much faster.

i think that i'm going with the motec 3 bar. it seems that the motec is the way quite few people go becasue of the ease of tuning.
