I have a bunch of 8mm videos I need to convert to DVD and was looking at some video capture cards. Does anyone have any decent experience w/ any? I know that in the past that the external USB ones were supposedly pretty bad when compared to the PCI alternatives, but it has been a while since I have looked much.
This will be running in my old POS
AthlonXP 2500+
512MB ram (gonna upgrade to a GB soon).
Thanks guys!
Chris

I've always been a fan of the WinTV cards. However, the "Recorder 2" (http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=41776&U=211326&M=8602) looks pretty handy: (I'm tempted to use one for a second camera in my race car)

i have this one here http://www.hauppage.com/pages/products/data_pvrusb2.html
and i'm pretty happy with it. I just converted my bands last show to DVD and it turned out pretty well. I've yet to try converting 8mm since I don't have a camera to hook up to it. Do they make those tape things (that you put the little tape inside) for 8mm? I've only seen ones for VHC

Definitely check out the Neuros Recorder 2 (http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=41776&U=211326&M=8602)... The one I ordered for my race car got here yesterday. It's actually designed more for what you're trying to do. It will record video to MPEG 4 files on a Compact Flash or SD / MMC/ MS card (you'll need the "PLUS" version for SD / MMC / MS). It can also play MPEG 4, music, and pictures on your TV. All you need is one of those memory cards and a reader for your computer, which you can get for pretty cheap from http://www.MeritLine.com
