It's already overclocked about 100mhz.
Does this mean I need to crank the bitch up?

It's just like ignition timing on a car... crank it up until it detonates (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7263668346151253701), and then back it off a little. :D

(j/k that's not how to properly tune ignition timing)

100 mhz is not much
push that bitch to 1000mhz

What temp should I not go above?

I tried to top it out completely but the memory gayed out. Its stilling cool at 2400mhz though. The adjuster tops out at 2500mhz though.

2400 from a base of what? what kind of cpu, more info or that's just weak

Are you running your RAM in 1T or 2T? What RAM are you using and what speeds are you running it at?

Can I ask your system specs?

The temp is going to completely depend on the brand/model of CPU.

My CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2.0GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache.
20% increase is pretty good I think?

I'm running 2gigs (2 x 1) of some DDR 400 stuff. I don't even know how to mess with the timings or what it does. If someone would like to explain those to me, I'd appreciate it.

A 400 Mhz clock isn't bad, I've gotten it higher on the same chip though :)

Any idea what brand your Motherboard and what brand of RAM you're running. I might be able to help you a little better if you divulge that information.

Also are you running air cooling or water cooling?

Just air cooling.

I have a-data memory, 184 pin and an asus motherboard which apparently has a ULi chipset. It wont allow for me to change the voltage or anything like that, it just has one number that I can adjust from 200-250. 200 is 2ghz, right now its at 240, 2.4ghz.

Im guessing that this is the clock speed and the multiplier is 10 or 100?

Have you tried setting A.I. Clock to manual?

In all honesty though, to get that thing going a little faster you would need to do some tweaking to your RAM speeds, and with the RAM you have I wouldn't try it.

There's other factors that come into play when you have to start raising voltages, and the biggest factor is your power supply.

I'd also be happy to answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability.

If you would like I can point you to some information about overclocking if you seriously want to get into it.

Do some searching for that CPU on Google and see what other folks have been able to easily get out of it w/o increasing the core voltage.

For instance, just tonight I realized that my 2500+ is not multiplier locked at I bumped up the multiplier to 12.5 from 11 bringing the CPU speed from 1.8GHz to 2GHz using the stock cooler and stock core voltage. The temps are the same as when it was running at 11. I am going to get a better HSF and try what else I can get out of it.

I appreciate the offer. I'm not that into it, I just like to learn a little bit about hardware when I buy new parts. When I have a few $k to to blow, I'll build a super nice setup with water cooling and overclock it to shit.

That way it wont be obsolete for at least a month.

Hehe, I loved that chip. Newegg sold the Mobile version of the 2500+ - it had no multiplier lock at all. I ran that chip at 2.5/2.6GHz all day long for years on water. Fucking sweet chip for the money too, I think I spent like $70 or $80 on it - and 3-4 years ago, it was a fast setup.

my 4200+ x2 usually runs at 25-30 C liquid cooled

Yup, this chip is cool. I just replaced the stock AMD HSF with a cool master and some arctic silver and the CPU temp dropped 10c. Then I bumped the multipler back down to 11 and the FSB up to 200 yielding 2.2GHz (3200+) at stock voltages and 37c (the same temp as before the OC) ;-)

The last overclocking I did was WAY back in the day w/ the Celeron 300a-450 and then later the 366-550.
