I've got an Asus motherboard as it came with the whole Asus bare bones kit. The motherboard says A8R-MX/DPbut Asus doesnt have that motherboard on their website. They have an A8R-MVP. I called them up and said whats up, they told me that the drivers for the MVP are the same as the MX/DP.

Their ethernet driver on the website is for some manufacturer I've never heard of but the ethernet port on my motherboard has Foxconn stamped onto it. Asus hasnt been of any help and I'm sure I'll be able to get the driver from Foxconn.

How do I find out exactly what Foxconn product it is?
Is it possible to do any sort of hardware scan?
Is it stamped on the board somewhere?

Foxconn just makes the plastic connectors.

XP has drivers for about every ethernet card under the sun. I'm surprised that you would even have to find drivers yourself =\

You suck at googling. The nic is a Uli M1573 integrated board

Foxconn just makes the plastic connectors.

Foxconn produces nearly 100% of the motherboards that Asus makes. However..that certainly would have nothing to do with what the chipset for the ethernet port. :p

What exactly is the chipset and what does it do?

My understanding is that its just the framework of the motherboard.

Chipset is a combination of chips. It's your motherboard's soul. It determines how fast the buses run and coordinates all the 'traffic'

And for the record, ASUS boards do not need chipset drivers with their newer boards. IE A8R-MVP/MX/DP Core 2 Duo Boards, newer socket 939 boards etc, etc...
