An old audi wont be cheap to maintain but should be reliable..
If you want a cheap beater w/AWD get a Jeep

Plus they're slow as shit. They sound great but unless you drop in a turbo 5 they barely get out of their own way.

I had a good friend with an Audi 80. It was the biggest piece of shit car I have ever been involved with regarding reliability/electrical gremlins. He actually took a crisp $100 bill and let some dude tow it away after putting in a new transmission and numerous alternators - the damn thing ate 'em for some reason and no shop he ever took it to could diagnose it.

than what is a reliable car that i can find for about a grand. somethings im looking for are power windows, a/c and heater, some sort of stereo, easy on gas and will last me 1-2 years until i graduate without breaking down on me....it would be nice if it looked decent as well. thats another reason i was looking into the audi just cuz i thought it looked good for what it was. same for the accord.

I used to have a 1990 90, and it was far from reliable. It had electrical problems, mechanical problems, tranny problems, trim was falling off for no reason, it was slower than molases(sp?). One of my great moments in my car history was when I sold that car.
If you want reliable, cheap, good on gas, a/c, and will last you 1-2 years, I think an older Accord would be great. If you want awd, look at some of the older Subarus, but it might be tough finding one for about a grand that has everything you mentioned, and looks decent.

It's funny cause all the stuff you describe, the G20 had. Why'd you sell it?

Personally, buy a 90-93 Accord. Those things are just unbreakable it seems.

^ I keep my eyes out those all the time. Hard to find in decent condition with low mileage, no mods, and 5 speed. If anyone has or knows of one let me know. I'll pay a very fair price. Just want it for a daily beater.

As a rule, high mileage German cars are a no no. Those cars have oil leak problems that are tough to fix.
