Hey guys, it's been AGES since I've posted here, but I have some questions that I'm hoping some of you can answer. Currently I am driving an 02 Mustang GT. Althought I can easily afford the car, and insurance (470 for the car, 250 for insurance) I really want something that is gonna be a heck of a lot cheaper. I am looking at getting out of the mustang and doing a full build on probably around a 92 civic hatch. I would want to do a fully built b18c1 with a t3/t4 (probably a drag gen kit). I would also be looking at paint, and body work (JDM style) as well as wheels, a little interior work, and a good dyno tune to keep the car in good condition. I'd also be looking at purchasing parts such as a carbon fiber hood, and spoon wing, as well as all the proper guages, as well as a fuel computer (would love to run stand alone, but that starts getting really expensive). So, with that in mind how much do you think a car like this would cost to build, including the price of the car? My insurance will probably drop around 150 bucks per month, and even at a 10K loan I'd be drastically cheaper on the monthly car payment as well. So what do you guys think? thank in advance guys. that's all for you.

Have you considered a 1g AWD DSM? You can probably pick up a 93 for around $2500, and with another $2 - $2.5K you can have it running 12s. All day and all night long.
Just a thought. Building up a motor which was engineered to be boosted is going to be a lot (no, A LOT) cheaper than trying to boost an N/A motor. Unless you want to run "WimpyBoost(tm)".
I'm a real fan of the 4g63 motor in the DSMs - they can make some awesome power with minimal mods...
Nothing wrong with ANY project car, but if your goal is to run consistently fast 1/4 mile times without having to go inside the motor... :)
I agree with John. If you're passionate about Civics then that's one thing. But if you want good bang for the buck a turbo DSM is much better choice.

Also one thing to add is that if you think that a DSM is un-reliable...then wait till you put a turbo on a Civic. The fuel systems those come with are totally pathetic. They try to get you to run insane fuel pressure levels to compensate for there lack of injetor size.
One project ive always wanted to do(along with many others) is to get a S13 240sz and get a front clip from a S13 Silvia and swap..That would probably cost less than a motor swap/turbo for a honda and would have so much more potential. The SR20DET is as competant of an engine as a 4G63.

Or you could make a beast of a Datsun 510 and transplant a 13B in there..That another one of my dream machines.

If you just want straight line performance then the older emissions exempt platforms will make your life a trillion times easier. And if it's Chevy based it will be dirt cheap compared to just about anything else.

Actually when i was reading on Hybridz.org i found out that putting a 350 into a 240z actually was better handling wize then with the original engine cause the motor sat farther back and was also lighter than the original L24(I think thats what it was).

I like the idea of getting a nissan 240sx. i know of one in houston (hometown) that was running in the 11's. But aside from that I love way it looks. handles great, rwd... If only the trunk wasn't soo small and the car too impractial for me(in college) I'd get one.

My friend actually just picked up a 91 240SX hatchback which he is converting to a jap-spec 180sx including a SR20Det red top. I have considered a DSM, I'm not real kean on the 1g styling though, and I want to stay away from a 2g's because they are still a good 13K car for a good conditioned one. I'm going to have to look into it more. I know I want something that is cheaper both in my monthly carpayment, as well as my insurance. Well thanks for the help thus far guys, the input is appreciated.

:guns: hatch haters!
I love the big ass :D
240 would be cool but good luck finding anyone that would help you with the transplant.
To run it down my hatch including the cost of the car is about 10k. All motor still and best 1/4 mile time in the sig. Kinda a real easy swap now, lots of available parts, people with knowledge, and hondas are pretty easy to figure out once you work with them.
I like my car, gets great gas milage compared to my previous cars, good power, handles good, NO car payment!, insurance isnt bad, blah blah blah.
