Just curious if anybody has 1st hand info on getting to Rapid City, SD. I have to run up there to pick up some stuff for my parents from some of our family. Any idea how long it'll take or any suggestions on routes to take?? Mapquest says 368 miles(from Loveland) and 6.5 hours.
Thanks for any info.

It takes us 6 hours or so to drive to the black hills region, and IIRC Rapid City is about 30-45 minutes further.
This is from Denver, and I speed, so 6.5 hours from loveland is probably right.
Two tips, watch out for deer, and use http://maps.google.com over mapquest, as mapquest is getting to be increasingly incorrect with directions.

What route is it suggesting to take on Mapquest? I used to live in Gillette and drove to Rapid City all the damn time for car shows and buying car parts.......

Mapquest seems to be going all over the place but in a nutshell:
-I-25 to US-18/US-20
-Then SD-79 N?
As Chris mentioned it seems like Mapquest is sucking it up lately, I used to have good luck with them in the past.
Thanks.

For were you live, it will most likley take you the time mapquest is saying if you take the interstate all the way. I live in Scottsbluff, NE and it takes us about 3-4 hours to get there. If you want, i could give you different directions for back roads to take that may be a little quicker. PM your # if you want me to go over them with you.

me too, and then I started hearing rumors that they were wrong.
Not a big deal to me until we printed directions to a wedding, and it told us to go left(south). 30 minutes later we realized we needed to go right(north).
So when I finally arrived, it was about 30 minutes AFTER the ceremony.

^^That happend to my parents as well. They printed off directions to go see my brother in Tacoma, and they said to go one way and that wouldve been completly wrong, but they realized that it was wrong and went the opposite way, and after that, the rest of the directions were correct.

Have to agree. Extended family around there since childhood. And watch for cops around Lusk.
