So, I was on my way back from omaha, and I got nailed by a Nebraska Highway cop. Its my first ticket, and im 23...Im just curious what I can do. I dont want to fight the ticket, but I Think colorado and nebraska share points...so I dont just want to mail it in and take the full points if I dont have to. I know they usually plea bargan tickets here, so I was wondering if that might be possible if I went back out to nebraska for my court date. Im going to call their attorny, but I wanted to ask you guys first.

Oh the ticket was 86 in a 75...

You broke the speed limit & got caught. Pay the fine and pay the points.

Wow...john..dont be a dick...Im not looking to get out, just looking for options. I dont mind paying the fine, and to be honest, I only thought I was doing about 80 ( where my speedo was set at)...so yes, I was speeding eather way.

my ticket says 86 in a 75...I thought Iowa was the one that was 70?

Last I knew, the points wont end up on your Colorado record, but you could have problems in Colorado if you don't pay the fine. Plea bargains are very common, but they tend to reduce the charge and/or points rather than the fine amount.

I got 5 or 6 parking tickets in 1 day up in North Dakota in a rental car and they still tracked me down.

Just pay it and be done with it.

I have no problem paying it...just trying to figure out if its woth it to go to nebraska and try to get points down, as I have NO tickets, and 10 cars and my bike...a ticket would hurt my insurance.LOL...I guess the best way is just to call them and our DMV...and find out for sure.

Didn't mean to come off like a dick, but rather a realist. A few other boards I'm on experience a lot if "I got a speeding ticket, how can I get out of it?" posts, and it drives me bananas.

Nebraska speed limit is 75, Iowa is 70.

I'm not much help but I'd suggest paying it and be done with it. I don't personally see how taking time off work etc. and taking $$ to drive there to go to court would = any big savings in the long run. I got a ticket in NM a few years ago, paid it the day I got home, out of sight out of mind. It didn't effect my CO license or my points.

Just pay it or don't, pretty simple. I got a ticket on my way back to Florida, in Wyoming, for 80-something in a 75. I didn't pay it, figured I might never pay it, and lo and behold two months later I get a letter stating that my home state license will be suspended if I don't pay up.

IMO, tickets don't affect your insurance anywhere close to how accidents do. My insurance isn't THAT high, and I have uh.. 7 or 8 speeding tickets. At 21.

yeah it seems that if you have an accident it goes up way high. I have had a revoked liscense and a DUI and my insurance is still 350 for 6 months on my crx.

Points are non transferable from state to state except for CDL. Each state makes it's own laws concerning driving and they each have their own points structure. Unless this has changed in the last year I think you should just pay the fine and be done with it.

The cop told me...as i was sitting in his car...LOL that nebraska sends the ticket to colorado so they can decide what points its worth. But I dont know how much truth there was in that...he didnt seem to have answers to any of the questions I was asking...he didnt even have the phone number to the court for the county I was in...meh...oh well... Thanks guys! I'll probably just mail it in and just be done...its my fault...might as well take care of it = )
