CLIFF NOTES AT BOTTOM

I don't know if this should be in the serious corner or tech corner because it involves both. So, my girlfriend and I were on our way back to her house from our scholarship party. When we got back, her mother wanted us to drive to the local 7-11 and buy her some medicine. So, we drove up there and I decided to get gas because the light was on. I pulled up to pump #4, went inside, and paid $20. I went to go pump gas but the damn thing was super slow; I only got 13 cents to pump before I transferred to pump #5.

At pump #5, it was faster than pump #4, but slower than usual. So, after it was finished pumping, I started the car and was on the way back. I felt the car sputter a bit, but I thought it was the road because there were stil snow with gay grooves. My girlfriend asked, "Are you doing that?" as if I were letting the gas go and giving it gas, but I wasn't. We got back to her house and we hung out. When I was getting ready to leave, I tried starting the car, but no luck. A couiple of more cranks and it started up. The bad thing is, it would die like 1 second after start up. I tried pumpin gas but nothing. I figured that water was in the gas when I pumped.

I borrowed my girlfriend's mothers car to drive back up to 7-11 and to report the problem. There was a new shift that was in working, so they didn't know anything. The officer on patrol there knew what happened because I was like the second or third guy to come in. He just told me to come back and talk to the manager tomorrow and try to use some kind of formula that will suck up any water. I got the phone number to that 7-11 and the manager's name. I left, and went back to my girlfriend's house and her uncle suggested that I get the officer's badge number and name.

On the way back, I saw this big blue truck stopped at the four way by the house. I didn't think anything of it, but I got the officer's badge and all the names of the people who were on shift and that were on shift. On the way back, I saw that this big blue truck was getting towed, so I decided to pull over and ask the question "did you just get gas from 7-11"? Turns out he did and will be going to complain soon. So, now the car is stuck there until tomorrow.

CLIFF NOTES:
I pulled up into a 7-11 and pumped 3/4 of a tank of gas. Car sputter a bit but got back safely. Few hours later, I tried to go home, but the car wouldn't start. Went back to that 7-11 with a different car and was told that I was the second or third person to come complain. I got the officer's name who was on patrol and the employees that were/are on shift.

What should I do if that 7-11 isn't going to pay for any damages or repairs?

i don't think many people use 7-11 gas... but it would be nice to know which 7-11 it is...

i would syphon (spelling) the gas out immediately and fill it with some good shit.. i honestly don't think 7-11 will do shit about it... more importantly get that gas out of your tank asap

Officer on patrol in a 7/11? That's a donut cop's dream, isn't it?

As far as bad gas - probably.

Well, I talked to the manager this morning. He said, that the gas was fine. They tested the gas every 12 hours and monitor it every 2 hours. So, what I can do is write a letter stating my situation and he will send it to the corporate and file a claim. He also said it was the way that the gas was pumping, but not the gas. I wasn't suppose to use the metal thing that automatically pumps for you. I was suppose to pump by hand. In my opinion, I see no difference. It was coming out slow, so I wasn't going to stand and wait in the cold.

I have never had an issue with 7-11 before until now. I know that water and gas does not mix, so if I were to drain the gas, would the water or gas be on top of the solution? Also, what would it be if the gas was fine thats making the car sputter/not start?

my 2 cents..

I work in the hazardous waste field and I know alotta people that work for gas companys..
One thing I have been told is that when you get fuel and the tanker is there or just left it stirs up the tank for the station, you can be fueling and the tanks get all the crap on the bottom mixed in. I know alotta people that have had this happen and the best way is to burn it off and add additives or syphon it.

remember that ANY gas station can have this happen, its only when the station is being re fueled or just did.

A lot of the cheaper stations don't do a very good job of changing their filters when needed too.

damn man that sucks it was on the news last night as well, diamond shamrocks have bad Winter gas! the one on Kalamath and Alameda and another one on colfax somewhere!

but diamond shamrock is paying for everything of the customers problems even renting them a car while there car is getting fixed AT NO CHARGE. Seems too me from what you have said, that 7-11 is trying too CHEAP out and say its not there fault.....Take them too court if they blow you off once more. get on 9news and read the BAD GAS story i would even call some kind of news lady or something too start a story on 7-11.

If you've got water in your fuel, or suspect that it's there, get a can/bottle of "heet" and mix it in to your current fuel. It'll help out immensely.

Well, I called them and yes, they are at fault. They found 8 inches of water in their tanks. So, they will cover my repair costs and what not. Wouldn't it have messed up my fuel pump and injectors? I went from almost empty tank to 3/4 of a tank of "gas".

Boost66: What is syphon it?
john: Where can I get this "heet" bottle?

Do you really have to ask that? Just about every auto parts store carries it. You can even get it at your favorite convenient store: 7-11. :D

Where can I get this "heet" bottle?

Well, I asked because I don't know what it is, but thanks for the help.

If the water concentration is too much, you're better off siphoning all of it out. I doubt Heet will work well if there's too much water in it.

Don't waste your time messing with it, if they are at fault they will be paying for the repairs, go get it done professionally.

Just burn it off, whats the worse that could happen? (besides your engine blowing up)
