Has anyone ever gotten a refund for a semester?

I started to sign up for online courses last semester. It ended up being way more than i expected/could afford at the time, so a week before classes started I game them a call and asked what I needed to do to cancel out. They told me if I hadn't paid by the time classes started they would drop me. Cool, ignored it, never logged on, never made a payment so I assumed I was auto-dropped. Their little handbook thingie also said enrollment isn't ofically complete until I pay, so I figured all was well.

Last week I got a letter saying I owe them full tuition for last semester. WTF?

When I called them back, they said I needed to talk to an advisor, and keep bouncing me around from extension to extension. I left 7 or 8 voicemails and have not gotten a call back, and have yet to get through to a person besides the lady that answers the phones at the front desk of the cashier's department.

Does anyone know what I should do in this situation? Or has anyone dealt with FRCC's cashier's department and know how I should go about this?

I had a similar thing happen at Metro last semester. I talked to people in there cashiers office, as well as other, and tried to appeal it, but when it comes down to it, when you sign up for a class there is a screen that states you are agreeing to pay them. I was even willing to contact the instructor of the class and have him write a letter stating that I never attended the class, but they told me it still wouldn't change it. If it comes down to it, I think you can claim a NC, and retake the class within a year at no additional cost. You might check this route if nothing else works. Unfortunately for me, I didn't think of this in time so I had to pay for nothing. You'd still have to pay for it now, but at least you wouldn't be throwing money away like I did.

NC? What's that?

i'm planning to retake the classes this summer, so i really don't care if they just put me in the same classes again.

NC is No Credit. It's not an F, it doesn't count on your transcript.

This really doesn't have anything to do with your current problem, but have you signed up for the COF stipend? Did you fill out a FAFSA packet? What about student loans?

These are all relatively easy to get if you signed up for the SSA, and between the COF Stipend and Financial Aid I haven't payed a single dime for School or books. In fact I still end up getting money back from Financial aid. I'm not trying to be an asshole or put up a brag fest here, just trying to put some info out that may be useful to you. :drink:

I got COF, it's required, didn't do fafsa, have no idea why i didn't i should have.

Anyway, just got a call back from the advisors, they set up an appeal hearing for me, he said most likely what will happen will they will make me pay the $1800, and give me a free semester next semester, which is all i really wanted anyway.
