Ok, so im wiring up my Electric Oil Pressure gauge, the block already had a sensor in it (previous owner) so i just wired to that. I'm 2/3's of the way there and i need a 12v source thats within 1ft of the gauge cluster.
Does anybody know which wire i can tap into for an ignition dependent source?
Its on a 96 Civic EX btw.

fuse or radio should work.

ya, i definatly dont want it wired into the fuse panel. Thats how it was done previously and it just seemed so half assed, i want it all done right this time.
Im kind of a n00b when it comes to which wire does what, etc. etc., so which wire would be the 12v source on the radio?
I suppose this is where a voltometer would come in handy. ;OwnEd;

If you have an aftermarket deck, i "think" it would be the yellow wire coming off of it. But yea, a voltmeter would help if you can get your hands on one. maybe youll find a better 12v source.

Depending on what 12v source it needs: constant or ignition powered.
Using the fuse block is the right place to get power IMNSHO. Nothing half-assed about it, vs simply tapping some other power wire and hoping that the fuse is sufficient.

I just didnt like how it was wired previously... seemed half assed to me.
So im still in need of a 12v source, as the first post says its for an oil pressure gauge, i was under the impression that an ignition dependent 12v source would be the better route to go for the gauge. Is it?

Is the oil pressure gauge manual or electric? If it's manual, the power source you need is for the light on the gauge, which I would hook up to the dimmer for the rest of the gauges. You don't want one gauge on all the time, while the others aren't.
If it's electric, it probably does need the 12v to opperate the gauge.
Either way, a test light of DVM will help you find what you need. Learn how to use these tools, and it will be helpful for a lot more than just installing a gauge.

Why would you need an oil pressure gauge in a 96 Civic?

Autometer.com and email them. They can send out a new one, after you buy it!

That doesn't answer my question.
Use the fuseblock. If the last install was a hack job, redo the install to your standards.
Or don't.

You should always get a more reliable src. for 12V or constant than the radio, you could use the (white) wire in your ignition harness, or simply extend the wire and fuse it to your battery.......hope this helps even though you said you already found a 12v src.

That doesn't answer my question.
a peace of mind that i can see what my oil pressure is at, especially since on start up the motor knocks for a split second... I partially need it to see if maybe the oil pump is going.
But overall, its a nice thing to have.
Thanks for all of the help guys, sending unit is bad so ill have to wait and get a new one :(
