Hey guys I am sure that everybody here who has coilovers or lowering springs has paid a hefty price. I want to lower my car but before I do I wanted to ask Colorado locals, what a good drop height is without scraping on everything. I was thinking of 1.7 or 2.5 in drop. I just don't want to mess my exhaust piping up. I also was wondering if it was true if you had coilovers that you need to get an all-around alignment after you change the ride height.

You should always get an alignment when changing ride height, since it alters your camber, caster, and toe.

I've personally driven on H&R/Neuspeed Sport drops on all my cars, and IMO with any sort of drop you just simply have to be careful. Even sewers in the middle of the road are super annoying and I dodge them.

Also, it varies on what kind of car you are going to be driving too.

you can go as low as you want, it just depends on how much stuff you wanna avoid

Tobi (honda Ghandi) has Tein lowering springs on sale for 160 +. Good deal on some nice springs, 1.5" to 2" drop.

I'm not sure. He has a link in his sig last I checked, and Teins are the shit. Or pm him, he would be more than happy to answer your question.

Since your car has front struts if you want to make it handle better, only lowering it an inch to an inch and a half is best. I'm not positive but if those Civics share the same rear suspension design as the RSX, then lowering it will definitely hurt the handling.

anyone here use tein springs, and if so, with what kind of shocks/struts? i installed some tein springs on a friends coupe, w/ stock shocks, and it rode like shit. obviously it would be better with better shocks, but how much better? can you get a smooth ride out of them?

I heard nothing but great reviews from H&R springs, i used to have a set of sprint springs with a two inch drop and when I hit a pothole it was not fun at all, and like MARIO if you see me driving im weaving in and out to avoid any dips.......go with the 1.5 inch drop, nice, clean, more aggressive look

Ya I have heard good things about H&R springs too. My friend has a set of the Tein high tech springs and the car rides like shit. I think it’s probably because he installed them.

SLAM IT! I got the Tanabe sustec pros, not worth the $$ IMO.

If you get springs, make sure you get some dampers to replace your OEMs or your handling will suffer and the stock dampers will wear out much faster. Your best bet it just to get a set of full coilovers that way you can adjust your right height as you see fit.

That being said, you should lower your car as much as possible and never drive over another speedbump again. :)

i have sprint springs on tokico's and love em. they ride smoother than most other setups i have experienced.

I tell you what, having no clearence sucks ass.

My jetta use to be awesome in the snow before I lowered it 3.x inches. I never really drove it in much snow after lowering it until this past month, and it sucks ass.

I got stuck mutliple time and fucked my alignment 3 times in the past 2 months. Mostly because it lost suspension travel not leaving the tire/wheel much room to move up.

I keep thinking of raising my car up an inch in the front to gain back some travel.

i got the skunk2 full coilovers on my eg hatch and i lowered it 3.5 inches and it rode good but then i went to 3 inches and man it rides damn near like stock but with way more capability in the turns and keeping the wheels on the ground. i got stuck 2 times with how low the car is on low treat tires.

id def wait for coilovers so that in the winter months you can raise it up

I'd say go with some coilovers and some agx's. Since the snow has been around, I raised my car back up and have not been stuck since. I love being able to keep the functionability of my car.

I have had no prob in the snow, I drop my car pretty low. But yeah I would get springs, the thing I hate most is going into my buddys complex, it's a bitch going over speed bumps..

hell yea. but the worst is the snow now. where they didn't plow theres the ruts. and in between those ruts are about 5 inch's of ice and you got to fucking straddle those fuckers. the other night i was trying to do that. slipped and fucking high centered my car. had to be fucking pulled out by this guy. it sucked

Ya I know all about the speed bumps. My sister used to live in the apartments over by the tinsel town and those speed bumps look like the guy who made was drunk, on crack, and blind or he really hates lowerd cars. Those bumps are like runing over a curb. My car got highsenterd on it and I havent ever lowerd my car yet.

My wife has a set of Tien SS coils with the pillow ball mounts on her sol and she said its the only lowered car that doesnt make her chest hurt! When we put 'em on we spun 'em all the way down and it still handles great. Had skunk2 coils on it before and it was a really stiff ride. I'm on apex-i T-max struts with sprint springs good for 1/4 mile launch but stiff for the street and the combined drop is 3 1/4 in. Dont even bother drivin in the snow that low.
