This is nothing new. LAPD started testing this kind of thing a few years ago. It makes sense... instead of cops manually typing in plate numbers, this does it for them, much more efficiently. It's just a logical progression of technology. Of course, widespread use of this system could also easily be used as the infrastructure to track a large number of people, and that's where the problem is. Every time you go near a police car, your location could be logged. Then the next step is to put these systems on street lights and such. Some cities are already doing that, but with facial recognition instead. Great for solving crimes, but pretty horrible if misused, and you know it would be with Bush in office.

I've got expired tags.
