For those of you in pretty serious relationships (beyond occational dating), when does the "I love you" come into play? I want to know how weird or normal my past experiences have been

The only time I said the L-word was to my first serious GF. We were each's first times and I really meant it and still do love her, just a different type of love now. We still talk and all that jazz. I think a lot of people don't understand what love really is. It's easy to confuse it with lust.

I hesitate to say it, and that's why I'm asking this. Some people wanna hear it, I guess.

I wouldn't even worry about it. Say it if and when you feel it. Don't mistake the initial "fun of dating" for love though. It takes time to actually develop that sort of thing.

You'll know when you feel it, If you're asking about it here then you most likely don't feel it yet, like I said, you'll know when it hits you.

All the advise here is really good and pretty much dead on. With my wife she said it way before me (I have that effect). But, when I finally said it, it just kind of came out, there was no thought behind it or wondering when it was going to happen, just felt right so it came out....you'll know man.

It's not that I don't feel it, per se.. it's more that I don't think I need to constantly have to say it, if ever, since the words don't really convey how I feel.. or whatever
Back to making fun of Civic 4224 or whatever, though

I been with my girl 6 years or something like that. I will say I LOVE YOU when she's pissed at me.
yea i loved my last girl friend and damn even though *BS* broke us up when i think about her i know i still love her... it was a great feeling, now when i think about it though its more of a weird feeling, so kind of a thread jack but kind of like Dave L said he still loves her but still talk, we dont talk but if i think about her i still feel like i want to be with her. im sure its just becuase theres not another girl to take my mind off. whadaya think

Just say it if you think she'll have sex with you. It might seal the deal.
