here's the deal, after a friend of mine bought 2 bad motors for a customers car i decided i want to rig up something to where i can actually have an engine running on just an engine stand. that way i dont have to install it to find out if its good or not. and that way if i have a potential buyer for a motor i can show the customer that it does indeed run good.

i figure an OBD2 civic harness would be the easiest to wire up, but that would obviously require an OBD2 ecu wich needs the crank variation sensor.

the only way i can think of to get around this is a jumper harness to use a OBD1 ecu.

anyone have any other ideas?

you can run without that sensor it just throws a code...

Or on d's it does. My friend sammy has been running around in his 00 civic ex w/ a obd1 D16 bottom end and a Y8 head. It throws about a dozen codes but it runs :p

It starts.. one of my previous cars had this problem. I read somewhere you can splice the distributor wire for crank angle sensor for the oil pumps crank sensor

Its a crankshaft speed sensor. Its only job is to measure speed fluctuations resulting from misfires. It will start and run perfectly without this sensor even plugged in. I assume for what you are doing you wont even have a dash plugged in so having a CEL wont matter.

For the 9,457th time..."too" carries a completely different meaning then "to". If you really don't know the difference, then just use "to" all the time and you'll be right more often then not.
