I am finally looking to buy an entry level slr. I am considering the nikon d40, canon digital rebel xt or xti. I am leaning towards the xti, but I have heard mixed reviews (lack of spot metering, the 10 mp cmos sensor) any recommendations? I plan on using it to take pictures of people, cars, cityscapes etc. Are there any affordable non-kit lenses that would be better?

Just stick with the XT, its a great value, and for a beginner, its plenty enough....
50mm 1.8 lense is a great lense to start with and its cheap ($80 on B&H)
Also another good wide focal range lense is the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 they run around $300 used....I am going to be selling mine soon, as I am going to be upgrading to a Canon lense

I would take the XT over the D40.........I felt one at the store the other day becasue I have a tendency of going around and touching stuff that isn't mine. Anyways the D40 was tiny....very hard to hold onto especially if you have a flash mounted on top.

So that lense would be better than the kit lense?
Thanks for the advice
