ok, i think my intercooler is holding me back. it is a tiny spearco 9x12 core. i ran two boost gauges, one before the intercooler and one after(manifold). before the cooler i see 30-32psi, after 21-25psi. this is with the wastegate wired shut. also after a run at the track the pipe's before the cooler are somewhat cool to touch. the pipes after the cooler are too HOT to touch. (man talk about heat soak). i'm hopeing that after i upgrade the intercooler i will see more boost. right now 25psi is the most i can get no matter what i do.

so what do you think? am i barking up the wrong tree? or with a new cooler will i start to see some halfway good numbers this year?(tired of sitting in the mid elevens NEED more speed)

thanks for any advise

Sounds like you've got it licked already. Strange that the charge is cooler before the IC, then gets drastically hotter as is passes through. The pressure drop across the IC seems pretty significant and would certainly seem to be slowing things down. Slap on a big FMIC and run some 10's for us would ya? :D

trust me i'd like nothing better! i'll damn sure be trying my hardest.

Shane -- if the pipes realy are hotter after the IC, and the pressure has dropped dramatically, why not just remove the IC? You'd have cooler intake charge temps and higher boost :)

No offense, but something just doesn't seem right here. Have you inserted a temperature probe in your intake before and after the IC to see what the car is doing while actually under boost?

I'm currently doing some temp testing on my intake charge -- after I get everything sorted out on my car, maybe you could use my gear to measure your intake charge temps.

Is it possible your IC is filled with oil, or something like that?

In any case, good luck. I'm anxious to see your car run at Bandimere this year.

Cool that you found out the problem can wait to see you car in action. :)

The temps are higher after the IC? Ugh. NOt a pretty sight. What is the diameter of the IC plumbing, as well as the IC endtank inlet and oulet?

If you are pushing 30+ psi before the IC and 25psi after, your IC is a POS. Apex has a nice FMIC with 3" inlet/oulet for not too much $$ (as far as FMICs go).

Which turbo are you running?

redrx,
no offense taken, hell thats why i posted the question, to get your opinion. i know i dont understand it either. i have not taken any actual temp readings, just by touch. and i have thought about running without an intercooler, but i just know i would loose the motor. unless the temp change to the pipes happens on the return road?

john, when i first bought the I/C i was on a much smaller turbo and only pushing 15psi. now i think i have out grown it. the guy at spearco told me it was more than i would ever need. HA! my I/C plumbing is 2". the turbo is a T3/T04E hybrid from TEC. comp 60 trim. and i think the turbin is 76 trim. i dont realy recall as i picked it up 2 days before IDRC.

Well, I don't know how your intake plumbimg is configured, but I suppose that it's possible to imagine a configuration where a hot portion of the engine heats up the plumbing after the IC. If this were the case, maybe it is possible that intake pipes after the IC heat up on the return road.

Other than something like that, hotter piping after the IC seems counter-intuitive.

Good luck getting it sorted out.
