Ok I'm in a situation where I purchased a car from out of state and the owner has been dicking me around for over 2 months now with sending me the title. Does anyone have any suggestions or any legal things I could do to get it from him? BTW this guy is a shitty lawyer which is why he thinks he must be god to screw me.

i think you should post his info on here so we can help you find him...

you don't want him to report the car stolen, even if you have a bill of sale. you will still prob get arrested and the car repo'ed until they investigate.

you need to call him at least once a day on your cell phone, so you have a log of the calls. then find someone out in cali to pay him a visit...

How do you buy a car and not have the title in hand when you drive away?

Because his car has a paperless title from California so he needs to get it from the DMV

If he financed the car and you know who he financed it througth you can contact the bank and as long as you have a bill of sale they should be able to give you the title. Well that is what a coworker just told me.

Just for future reference and maybe it'll help someone else....

I just sold my truck and I had it financed so I didn't have the title when I sold it either. I had it financed through toyota so we went to the toyota dealership and the dealership bought it from me for the pay off amount and then sold it to the buyer for the payoff amount. Then the buyer paid me the remaining monies. The dealership was then going to mail the buyer the title when they got it from their financing dept. The dealership charged $400 for this. It protected both parties involved.

Call the DMV and ask them what you should do.
