Anybody have this generation Probe in the past or happen to know much about them? My 17 year old nephew is in need of a car and it just so happens his neighbor has a '94 Probe GT for sale. It's clean inside and out, new tires, new clutch and has only 120K miles. Runs and drives good, and he can get a killer deal on it. He and his Dad are going to check the compression before he decides if he really wants it.
Are there any major issues with these cars? My nephew can't afford a timing belt or any major maintenance in the near future.
Thanks for any info.
Mark

Nice cars, but the V-6 isn't easy to work on, and dont take it to a Ford dealer, they never service it right.

They can be pretty fun too. My friend has one or two. It's the same engine in the mazda mx-6s and 626s. There's some aftermarket on those cars.

I used to own a 1st gen turbo probe.

the 2nd gens are good cars, decent with accelleration and there is a bit of aftermarket for em :)
Just make sure its not an automatic trans, they seem to have a lot of problems and they arent cheap to fix either, ummm... i cant really think of any other problems they have, pretty much they are a great starter car.
with a basic turbo setup and 12 psi you can easily see 360+ whp out of those engines, you can also swap the KLZE motor from japan into them (200hp V6) and those motors loooove the boost, nirous too, with the right tuning you can get 9k rpms out of em. at sea level most 2nd gen GT's with full bolt on's are in the mid 14's range.

hope that helps.
