Friend and I are contemplating going up to BlackHawk for some gambling and whatever else is up there.
Problem: Never been there.
Solution: Poll HAI.
I know several people here have been there and I'm looking for suggestions or tips.
Any info is helpful.

I plan to hit BlackJack, but the focus will more than likely be Hold'em.
Any specific casino suggestions?
do NOT get into poker games up there. ESP hold'em. everybody knows everybody, and they push you out. beware buddy.

stay away from hold'em tables with asians. Freaking they always cap out the bets, so you'll be putting in way to much money just to see the flop! Damn asian people!

i'm asian, and i do exactly what steve_c said. It's an easy way to push out the noobs that have no balls. It's called gambling for a reason, and if you think your hand is good enough to play, play it. if you're going to wimp out before seeing the flop because there's some money on the board, GTFO the table and play some blackjack or something.
race is completely irrelevant, though, as any good poker player will pump and take free blinds/pre flops from noobs. It helps eliminate possilbe strong hands out of the table and increase your odds as well.
how's it out there in ignorance land?

I hate no foldem holdem, but its still fun, I like the Ameristar, but the Gilpin has tournys all day long. And IMO the Ameristar has the best buffet I have ever eaten at, blows even Vegas away (crab legs)!!

how's it out there in ignorance land? It's fine and dandy when you think you have a strong hand or if you want to steal blinds. But really, do you really feel the need to pump up blinds when i'm holding a pair of kings and you have a 2 6 off suit and you weren't even blind?
I know what your saying about getting the river rats out of the game by doing that, but then again, isn't that the mentality of most asians when they play?
And IMO the Ameristar has the best buffet I have ever eaten at, blows even Vegas away (crab legs)!!Not sure which buffets your going to in vegas, but i'm sure it's probably not the right ones. Nothing in Colorado can hold a torch to the buffet at the Bellagio, Aladdin's Spice Market and especially the Rio's Seafood buffet.

I didnt get to the rio, but I did go to the one at the TI, and it sucked compared to the Ameristar as far as crap legs go. And I to hate the raisers, but if you have the hand to be calling with, then theres not that much to worry about.. And if you think you are playing the person rather then the cards in a low limit game, you have another thing coming....

Or just do what I do. Go up to the bar, make small talk with the bartender and act like you've been playing.

haha 2 fisting ftw! Where is the black jack at in blackhawk, i usually go to the gilpin because of the tourney's. I won 300 bucks last time, with only 40 buck buy in. The only black jack i saw had a really low limit, i think like 10 bucks lol. Doesnt that Irish casino(fitzgeralds i think) have good hold em?

The max bet for any legal gambling is $5 in the entire state of colorado. So there are no $10 limit tables anywhere.

Here is the best advice I can give for Blackhawk..
Take money with you, only as much as you can afford to lose. Since the max bet is $5 in this state, you really dont have a chance of winning much in any particular game. Myself, I go up there just for the entertainment value..if you go up expecting to win, you are likely to be very disappointed.
Sometimes you will win, sometimes you will lose. The payout overall is just about 50/50 if you play smart you can make your money last quite a while..if you are lucky you might just take some extra home. If you are unlucky..well they get to take your money this time.

:werd: It was nice when she started bringing me 2 at a time. LOLtake care of your server, she will take good care of you. I was playing blackjack in vegas around 3am, told the server i wanted fresh hot coffee. Tipped her 8-10 bucks, and she was bringing me a fresh cup every 5-10 minutes. when the dealer was shuffeling the cards, i saw her pour out the pot of coffee she just made and proceed with making a new pot. she kept on doing that till 4-4:30 when i couldn't handle any more coffee. So i had her switch me over to iced tea.its gonna be a long wait sitting at those penny slotsit was in vegas. here, i just walk up to the bar, don't even need to pretend i was playing, just ordered my drink, tipped and left.Speaking of Blackhawk...Steve, when are we going again? We kind of didn't go the last time.Hahah, soon my friend, soon. we will get something set up, just hard this time of year cause of the money strain and all the family and things going on.

uh. sounds like thats how your supposted to play poker. gamblings taking risks, so betting hard on a 2 7 off suits pretty stupid, but its a gamble. might as well fold people out of they have nothing either right?
its not 'asian' mentality, its a poker players mentality.

I don't know about everyone else, but I play way different poker when playing in Blackhawk than anywhere else. $5 bucks at a time is usually hard to keep someone out of a hand. Gotta be way more conservative up there.

lol funny story this was the first time i went up there, so me and my friends were at bullwackers and we went downstairs by the bar, my friend was wasted as shit so i said fuck it might as well get wasted as well. So i saw this bartender standing there and i came up to her and said "i want 4 bottles of heinekens please" ha ha she said, you can only have one drink per hour. She then gave me a bottle and then left so after she left, my friend and i started taking those buckets they use for storing change and started filling the cups by ourselves. We must've tried every beer brand that was available luckily we didnt get kicked out by security.

not at a $5 limit table, its an idiots mentality.
The problem is less that people bet with 7-2 to force people out, the problem is that they call three or four raises from early position with it.
If you're bluffing, you are pushing chips into the pot before anyone else. Calling a $20 preflop raise(four $5 raises before you), with 10-3 offsuit is retarded.

exactly i hate people who do this, usually they are the first ones to go home as well. I watched some black guys(they were friends) do that when i went up last time. They kept nodding at each other it was freaking retarded! I was like ok they just went all in pre flop for the 5th time, i fold....again!!! Douche bags lol, oh well easy money. I wish I had friends that played that bad it would be very easy to rob them blind hehe.

Yeah, hold 'em up there sucks. All the regulars just force the newbs out on every single hand. On top of that I hate the really fast pace they go at, I think it takes away a big part of the game.
