BOOSTHARD

i got a buddy who is looking to swap a B20 motor into his CRX, is it worth it? how quick should he be after the swap? is it a hard swap? how much can he get a B20 for?
Thanks guys :)

its an easy swap. should run somewhere around a mid 15 quartermile. in my opinion it is not worth the extra cost of a B20, i would do an LS. many people will probably argue with me and tell me the extra .2 liters gives you quite a bit more torque/power, IMO the difference is pretty minor, and B20's dont handle boost all that well. stock for stock an LS will drive about the same, and if he ever wants to boost it an LS will take more boost, making more power.

i see... i read somewhere about swapping the b18C5 head ontop the B20 block and doing a B20 Vtec hybrid... how reliable and efficient would that be?
I know he wants to go with boost so it might not be the motor he wants. im really interested in helpin him with this so im doin some research.

if he is going boost, deff. don't get the b20 sleeves are weaker.

I've heard of the CRVTEC, but IMO the long stroke of the B20 and the high rpm specialized C5 head are counter productive. Rmcdaniels custom built a setup like that a while back, and the tq and power were falling off by 6500. I'm on my phone so I can't search for the thread, but you might want to read it.

Redb20teg had a b20vtec boosted it was just fine.

he was only running 7psi, and while i dont know that he ever had it dyno'd i really dont think it was making much over 220 at the wheels/ where as pang put down almost 400 through a stock LS @ 20 psi.
about the crvtec... although it does fine all motor, i still really dont think the extra .2 liters will make any sort of a huge difference. i've never built one though....

B20 + altitude = why bother.
If this were california or houston then maybe.
Even still B20s just have too weak of sleeves to be serious.
I'd get an LS and boost that or build that up for all motor or NAAAAAAAAAWZ

i would definately go with the B20 Vtech... if you are only doing B20 might as go well go with the LS motor

Dood, pang made a whopping 400hp with a STO?CK botton end ls.
Thats 2 :)

Ok if you build it right B20 and B18 are both good motors. Its easier to replace stuff for a b18 thats why a lot of people go with the LS swap. There are more of them out there.

I'm not taking away from pang at all here, he has done A LOT for the import scene around here. its just not something that should be told to everyone who wants a swap because 20 psi is going to KILL a stock motor unless its tunned. even with substantial tuning that shit is going to pop sooner or later, and my bet is on sooner.
ill give it the benefit of the doubt and still keep the tally at 2

i know what you mean but yes i truly believe a stock LS can take 20 psi (from an average sized turbo, such as t3/to4e) IF TUNED PROPERLY pang is not the only one to do it, servion hit 458, then 515 uncorrected with an ls/vtec on stock internals.... and thats gotta be 600-650 corrected, and that was a couple months ago and i haven't heard that its blown yet. I'm sure that one will blow eventually, but so far so good., but i often use pangs as an example because A) he is a local guy that everyone knows, not just some guy i read about on a website. and B) because his did last a long ass time, pretty sure it was over 20k miles, which IMO is a long time... for a stock internal-ed boosted motor. and it was still fine when he pulled it, maybe it could have gone another 20k, we will never know. and if you still say that 20-40k isn't a long time for a motor to last then dont boost it at all.
weston's has also lasted quite awhile, but he is on lower boost.
so if i repeat myself will the tally continue to go up?

i was just saying that for shits and giggles, i know pang is not the only one. i fully understand where your comming from, belive me you are one of the people i would trust opinion wise, im just growing tired of the "20 psi story"

I remember blowing my turbo'd LS along i-25. It was shitty and amazing at the same time. But if you do boost it don't go over 20 on a tune set for 15. :)

Exactly 20 is not the number you drive with all the time. 20 for the track and 15 for the street will last you alot longer.
