I got an inspector for my house and they inspected everything. Are you trying to inspect yourself or what?

I'm not sure how the soil is in Kansas but in Colorado, there's higher concentration of radon so radon testing is definitely something that should be done. Depending on where you live, if it's lower than the surrounding area, the inspector will look for mold. It's pretty obvious what it looks like. If there's a large amount of it, he will recommend a mold test be done.

I had a basic inspection done. I didn't test for mold or radon.

The inspection price varies between companies and they usually charge depending on square footage. Mine was $300. Radon testing costs anywhere from $75-100. I paid $95 for mine and it usually takes about a week to get the results back.

I don't think you need to worry about radon testing unless the house was built before 1980...check with your realtor for sure. But definitely get an inspection...never take the homeowner's word....they lie.

My house was built in 82, which is why I didn't get a radon test. I remember everyone telling me that it was only for houses of a certain vintage, and mine wasn't that old.
The standard inspection? Should be considered mandatory. If you can't afford it, you can't afford home ownership.

I think it depends on the area, not when it's built. There was a home I looked at up in Thornton, over at 144th and York. The basement had a raised subfloor and there was a fan that was constantly running that pumped air from below the subfloor to the outside.
