Alpine Developments to make a turbo kit for the 2.2L Chevy Cobalt

Alpine Developments is a leading manufacturer in high horsepower turbo applications. They currently have a turbo kit made for the Saturn Ion and want to test the kit on the Chevy Cobalt. Alpine Developments is looking for a 2.2L Chevy Cobalt in the area of Aurora Colorado for R&D. The lucky person that assists them will receive a substantial discount off of the turbo kit as well as FREE tuning of the kit (a $300+ value).

If you are interested in using your Chevy Cobalt for R&D and are ready to buy a turbo kit, send an email to Alpine Developments.

wassup kevin... this isnt really the place to be looking for Ecotec cars...

these guys are mainly a bunch of honda buffs and believe that anything that doesnt say Vtec or Honda on it is a POS.

with that aside.

i heard that you were looking for a vehichle to test fit a twincharge kit on.
let me know wassup next time you're on messenger.

When are you finally going to let a bunch of Honda VTEC ricers burn your tub-a-ware box?

I'd pimp a cobalt SS. i like em a lot except for the big spoiler. and ecotec motors are the shit. I'd probably ditch the SC for a turbo though.

just curious, earlier you stated that you wanted a SC instead of a turbo since it is an auto...
what difference does it make?
the good things about auto's is the stall converter. you might need an aftermarket one, but if the stall speed is high enough you can launch on boost.

a centrifugal SC is still going to have some lag like a turbo, and the stock eaton SC's from the SS's are ok, but an appropriately sized turbo will still spool very quickly, and make more power.

well of course Turbo is going to be more efficient than a blower... then again, with just an upgrade to a twin screw S/C setup you could make over 300whp with just bolt on's.

Eaton just released a direct bolt on replacement for the LSJ thats a twin screw unit.

thats kinda my point though, that bolt on twin screw is probably still $2000 or so right? i'd rather sell the stock SC setup on ebay and spend about $2000-3000 on a turbo kit that would make 400HP and still spool nicely.

im not completely down on superchargers, i think they have their time and place. i have a 97 vortec 350 laying in my garage, and a lightening M112 on a shelf, and i have been trying to figure out for awhile now how i could make the two work together, if i figure it out its going into my 4x4 truck. as i think a positive displacement blower would be good for offroading.

yeah but when i say over 300whp i really mean OVER 300whp, with just bolt on's, injectors, Computer Tune, 2.6" pulley. most redlines/cobalts ss's are making 270-280whp, with a twin screw and a little more boost you could see 400whp easily and for under 3K.
not sure but i think the twin screw upgrade is only like $1,200-$1,500... gotta check it again.

I thought those were supposed to come with the Honda motor in there, why downgrade?

Bottoz
12-02-2006, 11:44 AM
Downgrade?!... negative. The 245hp ECOTEC is faster than the 300hp Honda. Torque and Air-to-water intercooler > VTEC + Boost. HP sells cars, TQ wins races.

Moe

I see, how about reliability?

Bottoz
12-02-2006, 11:51 AM
Reliability should actually be better. Cooler charge temps due to the Intercooler (the 300hp SC Honda doesn't have one) during long road race sessions is a huge benefit over the Honda powered Atom. Less RPM also helps reliability. Remember, a 12.5% increase in rpm increases the loads 50% on the Pistons, Crank and Rods. Making equal power at lower RPM puts less stress on the engine.

That'd be nice. Just let him know, due to licenseing they don't sell thim without an engine or tranny. And, they're all out of K20's. Only available with the ECOTEC now. Plus, a month ago prices were raised 8-15%. Expect about a 7 month wait from order to delivery.
