im looking for a relaively quiet, but high flowing 3.5" muffler.

edlebrock makes one but says it only flows 441cfm... that doesnt seem very high to me

flowmaster makes one but the case is pretty long i dont know if it will fit under a civic.

most others seem to be glass packs or "race" mufflers offering minimum sound reductions.

i saw a dude on h-t take a long magnaflow can, cut it in 1/2 and made 2 mufflers out of one. although i dunno how loud it is

CFM = C.I.D. x RPM x VE ÷ 3456

So for a 1.8 honda engine

110cid x 7500rpm x 0.85 ÷ 3456 = 202 CFM

lets assume you have a 2.0, rev higher and are more efficient

122cid x 8200 x 0.90 ÷ 3456 = 261 cfm

Lets assume you've turbocharged the car and have effectively doubled the displacement

That works out to 521 CFM.

441cfm isn't that bad for most any street 4 cylinder, even with a moderate amount of boost.

not sure about the sizes avail, but the borla x-71 is a pretty popular muffler

110 x 9000 x __???___ / 3456 = ???

i dont know what the VE would be but its a GSR with about 25 PSI (+/- 5 psi) from a 60-1 on E85. i have no reason to believe that i cant hit around 450-500HP uncorrected since servion has already hit 515 uncorrected with an almost identical ls/vtec setup

500 uncorrected should be well over 600 corrected right? i was thinking i might need something closer to 600 CFM, but if i cant find anything that flows that much then ohwell. i want to get it tuned with a full exhaust as thats how i plan to run it everyday on the street. and because its gonna be semi-daily driven i dont want it to be loud and obnoxious.

i had a dynomax ultra-flow muffler on my old 3" exhaust and that wasn't bad. a little more resonance inside the car than i like, but a resonator would take care of that, and i dont think it will restrict it much. the dynomax comes in a 3.5" too... i might just go with that if the flowmaster doesnt fit.

bah. i could make that for less than 1/4 of the cost (not including the burns muffler) but i really dont need 4", it would be cool to have aluminum exhaust though.

i got my 3.5" mandrel bent stainless exhaust for free though. just needed a little tweaking to fit the sol.
