What are your experiences with the Moates Ostrich? Anyone have good luck with it? Bad luck? Pros/Cons? Thanks for any info. :)

it's great...

it's how to use it for what it was made for is the hard part

It is great. If you do tune it off the Ostrich and then transfer the .bin to a chip, you will notice the same tune will run leaner on the chip than on the Ostrich, so keep that in mind.

Why? That doesn't make sense.

It doesn't make sense, when I first read about people having that issue on PGMFI, I thought the same thing. I ran my car off the Ostrich for a month or more. When I finally burned a chip for it on the dyno, sure enough, it leanded out some. For a fast easy solution, all I had to do was raise my fuel pressure 2 psi, made another run on our dyno and it came out fine. Every car I have done since has done the same thing, I just keep it in mind when tuning and tune rich and make sure to make sure things are still cool after buring the chip.

Mine works 100% fine, and i sure as hell don't miss logging -> changing map -> shutting off -> pulling chip -> burning -> plugging chip back in -> starting car -> repeat a bajillion times.

Now its look, adjust, done.

I personally haven't seen any issues with the lean/rich some people are having, though. Have you checked your cable? The cable craig moates uses is kind of a piece, the 28 pin part of the cable likes to come loose and give a less than ideal connection between the cable and the pins.

If you're using CROME its kind of picky sometimes, hitting the wrong commands (like verify during a live tune session) will shut the car off for some reason, but that's a crome issue. Uber works fine, though blake is a whore and stopped working on it and blundy won't give me PGMFI sourceforge access for teh source =(

only a few people have had that problem; i've NEVER had that problem and i've tuned over a dozen cars on crome using my ostrich. I've yet to have to change any fuel parameters AFTER i've burnt a chip due to the car running richer or leaner on the chip than on the ostrich with the same software.

I think it has something to do more with the computer/burner combo than crome/ostrich/eprom combo.
