you do know it is a bad thing that it is smoking that much right? technically a diesel should have a small "puff" of black smoke, then it should lean out and there shouldnt be any particulates in the exhaust.

the amount of black smoke with that truck means it isnt getting enough air for the fuel you are putting into it. with the amount of fuel he is dumping into that, i bet he could upgrade the turbo.

hahaha i dont want to start anything, i actually just saw the "diesel performance" sticker on the side. the smoke could also just be a result of powerbraking it.

Actually some of the most powerful Diesel pickups will smoke even worse then that......ever watch a diesel pickup on a dyno???

My truck looks like a frickin freight train when I get on the gas, if I lean it out (makes less smoke), it loses power.

this just proves my point. look at the truck that made the most power. 1200 something lb-ft of torque. it made a puff of smoke (albeit a large one) and then thinned out ridiculously.

im not saying that diesels are the cleanest things around, im just saying that if it is smoking through the whole RPM band, you are putting too much fuel into the engine in comparison to the air.

He graduated from WyoTech's advanced diesel program, and the stickers down the side of the truck are advertising for his own business. I think he knows what he's doing.

Those pictures were taken from a dead stop - I don't think it smokes quite that bad after he gets a little further into the powerband. Either way - 600HP and 1000+TQ with mere boltons is nothing to scoff at.

I got a Dodge dually I would put up against that, I don't know about my f350 she is getting old and been having some problems.

Most of the heavy smoke from diesels is from turbo ramp enrichment. The turbo spools faster, EGTs are lower this way. If you tune for no smoke or little smoke you have higher EGTs, higer spool times and less power. Mine smoked quite a bit from a stop, and on accelleration when downshifting. Its good for power, bad for lung cancer.

My F350- 405whp 783Tq @ 28psi. on a stock turbo and trans.

Well as long as we're driving we don't have to worry about the lung cancer part of it, lol!! I can see lots of ricers getting lung cancer in the future.

Small gloves.

I saw some mechanic show on Speed that did a big segment on ATS. They design and manufacture everything on site. They have an in house foundry and a huge install bay too. Pretty impressive operation.

you sure about that? i havent been to their new shop so i dont know, but while i know its pretty huge for a install shop, it would seem pretty small to have a foundry, and all other machines required for that as well as the install shop.

and i dont know the whole story on this so i could be wrong... but i hear they are in the middle of a huge lawsuit, something relating to their triple lock torque converters. someone told me that clint from ATS got help from a few people while designing it, and then clint basicallly took all the credit and got it patented, making a shit ton of money.

either way i still think ATS is the shit, and i wish i could afford a D-max

Me too... I've considered a D-max as another project vehicle when the GT-Four is finished. There's nothing like adding insult to injury by smoking someone from behind the wheel of a diesel pickup... and then smoking someone from behind the wheel of a diesel pickup. :D
