Me and a guy here at work were looking into the lastest news on Ethanol and came across some really interesting trends going on right now as far as investing goes. I dont know how many people here invest or know anything about investing, but right now would be a good time to learn. I am not going to go to much into detail on here, if you want to know more IM me and I will let you in on some details. Mr. Gates, and Mr. Khosla (co-founder of Sun Micosystems) have invested money in a Colorado based Ethanol plant in Yuma, Colorado will be providing almost 1/2 of the nations Ethanol. This is good news for us Colorado guys that drive performace cars (point to this whole thread), and us investors as well. There are plans for another plant to go up there as well. With any luck we should be able to get Ethanol cheaper and at more stations here in the next few years.. I found this all to be great news and thought I would share with the rest of you...

yea the problem is that's not something you can really bank on. When I need a kidney/liver transplant at 55 i'm gonna need to be able to RELY on some funds to get that... or else i'll die (read: "stop drinking)

Are you thinking of investing in PEIX? Their stock is at about half of what it was around the time they made the big announcement of the Gates investment, is there some new news?

That's because Gates is going thru some investment company. Pacific Ethanol looks fairly decent but Archer Daniels looked like a more attractive buy to me.

Bill Gates owns an investment company called Cascade Investment, and is invested in PEIX, it looks more like a trend then when he anounced his $84 dollar investment in the company, dont get me wrong it sure as hell helped the stock. Let me get some more figures put together and I will PM anyone that wants some help as far as "planning for the future" goes. Renewable energy is going to be the way of the future for our country, as fars as energy goes. Until we get the whole Cold Fusion thing down :)

Archer Daniels ;) ;)

I honestly don't see ethanol taking off once everyone realizes how corrosive it is. Maybe I'm wrong.

The future is something else.

I am not sure you are right about that one. I dont think Ethanol is all that corrosive, we put 10% of it in our cars now... We will see I guess.

Guys, just make sure you don't put all your eggs in one basket. That's all I'm going to say.

Well, actually, I'll also add to make sure you read the financial statements, analyze them against their peers, then make an investment decision. Do NOT invest in a singe security/individual stock because someone else did. Realize that Gates is able to invest a lot of money in many areas.

Additionally, those of you saying to yourself, "I need to start planning for my future" need to see seasoned financial professional and most likely be prepared to change your lifestyle. I'd be willing to be few on this board are saving nearly enough.

Shocking, I know, that all of this is coming from a bean counter.

/rant or however that shit goes.

Thats really good info, I wouldn't tell anyone to get into anything with all of there eggs. its true about how many people dont have some sort of portfolio started.

It is indeed corrosive. A few reasons why, actually.

It absorbs water, and water is corrosive. This is why they can't send ethanol based fuels through pipelines, because the pipelines would corrode.

Ethanol & other alcohols(like methanol) corrode brass, aluminum, zinc, lead, etc quickly by themselves.

Since ethanol is more conductive than gasoline it will more or less act like an electrolyte, and galvanize some fuel system components.

Flexfuel vehicles were designed with this in mind. And it is the same reason you can't run e85 in other vehicles, because the materials used in the fuel system were not designed to withstand the destructive force of ethanol.

If you run methanol in your racecar, make sure you flush it with gasoline every time you park it for more than a few hours. All racers running methanol have to go through this, or they start experiencing lean conditions with no immediate cause.
