LOL ok this has been one headache after another. I purchased a 76 datsun 620 pickup about a week ago. A couple days ago it caught fire, small fire inside the car from exposed wires hitting the heater core. Ok no problem, it was snowing so i just threw some snow inside the burning mess, huge disaster avoided for the time being. I proceed straight home and take the wires off that burned. Car starts right up, ran as usual. Today i replaced the oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, and did some maintenance stuff, new battery, oil change, belt, plugs, wires, cap, rotor( oh and also cleaned out the carb). Now the car wont turn over, it putters and backfires like mad. It has fuel, it also has spark, weak but it is there. Blah i need some help. Oh i also removed the spark plugs and turned the engine over, thinking maybe it was flooded but to no avail. The only thing weird that i did was turn the crank pulley(with the belt on mind you), would that throw the timing off? Hope you guys can point me in the right direction. Thanks,
Kevin.

Check that you didnt put the plug wires in the wrong order.

thats what im thinking too.

if it was running fine, and just all the sudden started backfiring and shit after the tune-up then its almost got to be a timing or firing order issue. and as long as you did not have the timing belt/chain off, then turning the crank pully would not have any effect on timing. however if you replaced a timing belt/chain then you need to double check that you aligned everything properly.

yeah i just double checked the wires, they are in the correct firing order. I never messed with the pulley when the serpentine belt was off. It has a timing chain and i never did anything with that either. Will I be able to see spark coming out of the wires, i didnt see anything but i did see blue from the ignition coil?

would bad points cause the car not to start?

You'll have to provide a ground to see the arc.
