Ok, this is pretty broad but what is the most efficient way to hookup LOTS of extra electrical components to a car? One of my projects over the winter is to clean up lots of wiring in the Supra. It has alot of new and old components that need to have power with the ignition on. Things like: Tranny temp guage, cooling fans(I want these on all the time), wideband, AEM ECU, boost controller, twin in-tank fuel pumps, and much more.

What is the best, cleanest and "proper" way to get all this crap hooked up well. I hate to admit it, but I've got it all hooked up ghetto style into various fuses in the fuse box:(

Thanks for any info.

Get a distribution block that's powered on by a relay tapped into the ignition.

Basically what he said. Not a car audio one but one from Summit or Napa. It's like a new fuse box but it runs off one power connection and some also have a ground too. Summit has some nice ones that are more for the car audio but they might meet your needs. I just entered "power distribution" and they came up, also "fuse box".

That sounds good. I've just run across a few little fuse blocks that look like exactly what I need. How many components can I safely run off 1 relay? I have no idea if there is a limit or anything like that.
Thanks.

Generally relays have a current(ampere) rating..most are 20-30 amps, but there are smaller ones avaliable too.
Just use one big one or multiple small ones..

The relay will latch with very little power, volts or amps, but you can run a lot thru them. 20-30 sounds like a basic relay you can get from any shop. If you need bigger go with a Stinger or Scosche 200 amp or 500 amp!!

actually, http://painless.r-catalog.com/pg-lkp/partdetail.asp to be more precise. Already wired to be an ignition powered circuit.

+1 to using a relay

Thanks for all the info guys.
FYI, painlesswirings website is not working for me at all from work. But I did find this from some searching, this looks to be my answer right here, is this what you are referring to Tobi?

If thats exactly what I need right there, I'm gonna go ahead and order that badboy.
Thanks again.

Yep, thats it. I used one to wire Willie B's car and it worked nice.

Hey Tobi, another quick question. I just found this one:
P/N - 764-70117 : 7 ignition-hot circuits. Uses two 40 amp Relays.

Would this be overkill? The difference with this 1 is that all 7 are "ignition hot", which I need. I have atleast 5-6 components I need to run so I figure this one may be a nice, overly rugged one.
Thanks.

Bump.

I'm looking into these and I'm wondering something, how do you know which fuse to use for a certain device? Can you tap multiple devices into one fuse circuit? Also, where is the best place to hook up the wire that gives the block it's power?

I like the painless wiring. Looks much better than my fuse box I got from radio shack that uses glass fuses. Old school baby!
