My aunt is involved with a small non-profit that rescues the big cats from movies, commercials, and people that don't need them anymore, abuse them, or just abandon them. They are in need of many things, not just money. Mostly bleach. They told me they go thru a 1-gallon bottle for each cage a week, and with 130 cats as of Saturday that's a lot of bottles. Each cage has to be 12'x12' but after seeing these cages I'd have to say that have it nice, they are actually about 20'x30'+, big tanks if fresh water every day, good food and loving people to take care of them. They have a list on their web site and who to contact. Also if enough of you want to donate stuff I will be happy to come up and pick it up or we can have a meeting place to get a whole bunch of stuff.

Yesterday they had a behind the scenes tour and we got to see the whole facility and almost all the cats. They have the skid loader and the backhoe so they have 2 of the big items. They also received about 100 gallons of bleach so that’s helped a lot. They are a great bunch of people and they make no money off this. They are all volunteers and all the money you give goes to the cats. Thanks for reading this and if you can help contact someone there or me.

Just for duscussion I read when the owner was threatening to shut down because of lack of funds and that he was going to euthanize a lot of the animals. Many similar shelters and rescues criticized him as "scareing" people into donating because they all knew as did he that he wouldn't kill the animals.

Has he had to euthanize anything to keep afloat?

Nope. In fact the original owner just passed a year back due to cancer so it got even tougher for the group. But they have enough money coming in to take care of the cats as they have needed but it's the little things they don't have enough of. They have a vet and a good crew so the cats are well taken care of. Since it is a non-profit group they don't pay taxes and that also helps. They have tried to get some big companies to send them their products, like Clorox, but they will only help disaster areas like Louisiana. I find it kind of sad that they couldn’t send a case out to help but some of these companies only want to fill their deep pockets.

If you all see the American Furniture Warehouse commercials you will see some of the cats from this sanctuary. The owner had three of the adults on location for a shoot and when they were done he left them outside in the rain. The animal welfare department had Big Cats of Serenity Springs come and pick them up. They called AFW to let them know they had his cats and he basically hung up after telling them he didn’t care. They also have mike Tyson’s two white tigers he used as punching bags. He tried to write off vet bills for his bankruptcy files but Big Cats of Serenity Springs never sent a bill, they didn’t want anything to do with him, they love the animals too much. They picked up the tab and let it be.
