How's the current job market with computers nowadays, for those who's in the know? I feel like going back to college, and maybe start working towards a career.

I was outta college for maybe 2 days before I got a job with geeks on call. Pretty decent money if you ask me. I was looking for a little before I graduated, and there was lots of jobs, from helpdesk to system admin.

Gah I was afraid of this. Honestly I hate computers. I spent all my time in HS preparing myself for a career with computers that I'm burned out. The image of myself spending 2/3s of my life behind a desk is a nightmare to me.
Gah I suppose I should attend the Metro College open house next week. GIS sounds interesting, hopefully that will swing my life away from computers.
IT/etc is growing. I've been doing this stuff forever and just get paid more and work less. :)

The IT job market is pretty good right now. Much better than it was 2 years ago, IMO. The problem with IT is just that a lot of the better jobs are looking for a very specific combination of skills/experience, so it's not always easy to find something that's the right fit for you, unless you're just starting out and looking for something more generic.

Generic as in answering a phone all day?

That would be the most common case. The helpless desk is where a lot of people start out, and it's a clear path to doing desktop support, which then can lead to networks and servers.

That's where I started even after getting my EE degree. Technical support for 11 months before I got a kickass job as a sysadmin. Now I've become a lowly test engineer who gets paid a ton of money to run test scripts. :D
