Have no idea cause I dont know much about this kind of thing but is it possible to install power steering on a car? about how much would that run. just curious to see if it even can be done. so if anyone could let me know the process and cost of this thatd be cool.

Why would you want to?!

but without knowing what car you're talking about it's hard to say. i'm going to guess an ek civic and all you have to do is get the power rack, lines, pump, bracket etc.
though its a really stupid idea going from non-power to power, you add weight and loose power..

unless someone has just taken the pump and lines out of your car, if thats the case just put them back in

I agree. Unless your car weighs a ton and is some big ass boat (which I doubt) there isn't much point in doing this.

how does power steering make you loose power? and how much can it weigh? thanks and on this application we would be talking about a eg civic

for one the eg and ek steering racks are NOT the same regardless if they are power or not
i know 1st had because i converted my p/s 94 ex to manual, i tried to match the rack up with an ek rack and the mounts are about 2inches further appart on an ek than the eg
secondly it adds weight beause there are more parts and the rack has power assist and abunch of lines on it, not much weight but you get the ideal
and for the power thing obviously the p/s pump runs off the motor using available power to turn the pump just like an a/c compressor

any idea on how much power the p/s takes

not enough to notice, just a guess but maybe 1% when the pump is actually being used I.E. in a turn. The rest of the time I'd say a fraction of a percent. But like stated before, these cars are so light whats the point in spending the time and money to do this. I can palm my wheel in a turn and my tires are 1.5" wider than the stockers. I really do feel P/S on a car this light is pointless.

Yes ,you can add power steering to a civic pretty easily.. probably 400.00 in used parts and about 400.00 in some labor will get you there..
I added power steering to my 1995 civic cx from a gsr.. I'll say the responsiveness I recieved is amazing.. So I think it's worth it,unless you want a Drag only car..

I think it's pointless, honestley, I think you have more controle over your car without it, but thats just me.

That's cool.I just happen to like the ratios from the integras.they are very responsive in civics..

I've owned 2 cars with power steering, and 2 without.

Bottom line: After about a week of removing PS on my first car, I didn't notice no power steering anymore. Yes it sucked when trying to hold a cell phone and turn in a parking lot, but it wasn't that big of an inconvenience.

Would I take it off a car that has it? Probably not unless I was doing a turbo install and it needed to go, or building a drag car and didn't need it, etc.

Would I put it on a car that doesn't have it? Probably not. It's not that important of an ammenity for me and I really could swing either with or with out it.

Most stock to mild bolt on FWD 4 cylinder cars I've seen on the dyno have seen 3-8 horsepower at the wheels when removing the belt.

You are spinning a hydraulic pump at all times. It really doesn't matter if you're turning or not.

This sounds pretty accurate.. I had the same car with and without power steering.. and the same setup with and without a b series motor..
I noticed the engine was a little more responsive when I took power steering out(with b-series).but the steering response was pretty weak without power steering.. So I would say if you want a track car.. the integra system benefits you,But if you want a racer(1/4 mile) and max power, then you don't want the power steering..If you want both.. then add power steering and a big f'n turbo and go from there...
