Not that technical, actually pretty obvious. Anyway toyota i might buy has been sitting for 2yrs, only starts with starter fluid. Is that bad gas? If so how do I alleviate the problem? Also what else should I do, drain the coolant, replace bad hoses, oil change? Anything else? BTW thanks in advance guys,
Kevin.

how would i check the fuel pump? Can i just take the fuel hose off from the filter and see if gas comes out, when i crank it over?

You can but that'd be messy. Pull the access cover to the fuel pump, put the key in and turn to ignition and you should be able to hear the pump prime.

It should. Just keep it running with the starter fluid for a few and it should keep running on it's own as long as something isn'ttotally fucked, fuel line could have air in it, clogged injectors, clogged filter, anything. You could also try getting the rpm's up with the fluid and then put your hand over the TB and block all airflow, it'll have no choice but to suck all the shit through the injectors if they're clogged, just a little trick that I've used quite a few times. Same goes if its carb'd.

ok thanks for the advice ryanman. Isn't it bad to run the car(forcefully) on crappy gas? They guy has an extra fuel pump just in case though. I'm going to look at the car tomorrow, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
