It's ok... it was still a good 4-6 seconds faster per lap at Second Creek than the Type-R's. :D

So what you are saying is that its faster at a place that doesnt exist?

If you did the same mods to the type R that you have done to your car, I bet they'd be 4-6 seconds faster than you. :)

Not really, since my handling mods were to install Type-R parts, stiffer spring rates than the R, and other stuff. A turbo B18C5 would also be problematic on a road course, to say the least. Given the opportunity, I'd gladly race against one, but I sure don't see anyone turbocharging Type-R's for the purpose of road course racing.

what was your best time as SC Weston? My best in my ITR was 1.19.40.
Weston

1:17.2... Fastest ITR I ever saw out there was 1:21 and it had way higher spring rates than I did. Stock ones were more around 1:23.

I have a secret way to get fast times at SC. I had full race slicks borrowed from a friend, and I was selling it the next week so no fear mode had kicked in.
My average there was in the low 20s though. I had a couple of back to back laps of about 1:20:8X ish but for some reason I cracked off that 1:19: then my pads caught fire and I was done for the day.

And he payed probably twice as much to be where he is and is probably ~500lb heavier then Weston??

Chris, do you need to get pwnt in your 240 again? I have my new manifold installed now, so no more giant exhaust leak before the turbo. Sure, my valves are still bent, my head gasket is blown to hell, and my block is probably a little tired from 3 years of turbocharged abuse... I'll still own you worse than salsa in your eye! :D
Justin only has about 1.7 times the power and torque that I do, but that's besides the point. He also has 1.33 times the weight, so that means that I just need to make about 300whp and 280 torque, which is probably right around the most I can get out of my little turbo. He will see my tail lights one of these days... Or we can just go to the road course and he can see them today. :D
I was thinking I'd turn up my boost and rice it up with him, but it turns out that my headgasket finally blew, so additional boost would just be wasted... The deck was a little warped from over heating when I replaced the gasket a year and a half ago, plus I kind of messed it up by torquing it down and then having to pull the head back off to install the dowel pins that I forgot, so I'm just glad that it lasted as long as it did. Oh, well... I was planning to put in a fresh motor this winter anyway.
And he payed probably twice as much to be where he is and is probably ~500lb heavier then Weston??
It's more like 700 lbs. :D

I take it nobody has watched Waiting? On the other side of the coin I'm tinkering with the thought of upping the boost to 10psi, that should put me right around 500hp :-P

399 whp and torque in the neighborhood of 380, iirc.

No, what does that movie have to do with our ricemobiles? Damnit, Justin... I'm gonna come over and super-glue your boost controller at like 4 psi. :D
-=[Juztin]=-

well my first post was in humor of a quote from that movie, but apparently nobody got it so it turned into a shitfest. Aw$om3!
Weston-work
10-06-2006, 02:32 PM
and what are your numbers weston?
My last dyno was 254 whp and 239 tq on about 10 psi. HP would have been slightly higher, but the boost was dropping off around 6000 rpm (cheap DIY boost controller stopped working right, ever since I vented the hood). The dyno before that was 236 whp and 226 torque on 9 psi with my old VAFC setup.
Anyway, I only need 300whp to match his power to weight ratio. So, once I fix/upgrade my motor and add some more boost, I should be right around there... The only real challenge is trying to get this amount of power out of the small turbo I have; it kicks a lot of ass on the road course, so I'm not going to change it.
David
10-06-2006, 02:34 PM
300whp would be way too much for a FWD on a road course wouldn't it? You'd just spin your tires out of every corner the second boost comes in.
Chris_V=|work|=
10-06-2006, 03:01 PM
Chris, do you need to get pwnt in your 240 again?
you never pwnt me in the first place so how could you do it again?
plus, with my downtime on driving (courtesy of englewood...worst city in the state of colorado) im making changes to my setup too. no more heat soak for me as well as larger maf with better tuning. all i need is 7psi to own you.... I can already spin the tires coming out of each corner when boost hits. Even a low power car can manage to break traction as it accelerates towards corner exit. It's all about keeping it under control with throttle modulation; on a boosted car, you also have to anticipate the boost coming on, rather than trying to react to it after the fact. Anyway, you're right that more power can be harder to control, but if it's being a problem, I can just get a two-stage electric boost controller and lower the boost in the tight corners.

You saw my victory smoke and you know it! :D Actually, we seemed to go back and fourth when it came to pulling on each other, due to both of our ricemobiles having intermittent problems, plus gearing differences. However, my car is slightly less broken now, and it may actually be fixed within a few months... I now actually have a decent budget to waste on cars, while also making double-payments on my credit cards to get my $11k of debt paid off within a year or two. I can afford to either pick up a used stock shortblock and have a good engine in the car this month, or I can wait another month or two and have a fresh, mildly built, motor... Or, I can be dumb with my finances and take out more credit to own you even worse. :D
"no more heat soak" == vented hood? pics?
RWD will always own FWD.

i added some piping to my intake in order to place the filter where it can get some good fresh airflow. i also changed my maf to a pull setup rather than blow to fix my inconsistant readings with a larger maf so i dont have a bottleneck effect.

They put it against a Mini Cooper S... that's easily one of the best handling FWD cars.
