It is basicly what it's named for. It holds a cleaning liquid and heats up and this helps it clean the parts. You can use some pretty harsh stuff so make sure it is aluminum friendly. I've seen some people only get back freeze plugs, a few nuts, and bolts when they put a whole block in!!. The easy way to make one is a oil barrel, heater element from Home Depot, and water with what ever cleaner you need or a premixed solution.
I should be able to do it. I'll get back to you tomorrow. I'll PM you with more info in the morning.

There are a bunch of places around Loveland and FTC that can do it. I can't think of any right this second though. Oh wait, there is Bauers Engine(or Bowers, I can't remember the spelling) in Fort Collins. Maybe try Doug's Crank and Grind in Fort Collins as well. Also, there is US Performance Machine in Loveland.

How much does it usually cost to get a block hot tanked?
$50 and up. I've seen places charge over $100 before. Depends on the size, and what type of hot tank it is. Some people use an acid bath, some people use a boiling style hot tank, some people use a detergent/sprayer type (which is what I use, and it never fails to come out looking flawless).

Those are pretty good prices. I might have to hit you up M@ when I'll need to get mine done.
Word. Let me know. I can still do stuff for pretty cheap, but usually will need a day or two for turnaround (more time for it to sit in the tank = cleaner part).

Yeah, make sure it is rated for aluminum. A lot of shops have caustic tanks that work fine for iron blocks but will dissolve an aluminum block. I know I went to a guy who bead blaste my block for like $30 or $40 at a shop called Colorado Automotive Machine. The guy does good work and has really pretty good prices. I had him do a valve job and a bunch of other stuff.

Price is dependant on what you bring them, time in tank, and what chemicals are used/needed to get the part/s clean. 50-100 is a avg for a 4 cyl to a v-8 for a day in the tank with spray offs to get the gunk off it.
