View Full Version : Your thoughts on life...

So, just like the title says, what are your thoughts on life? What's the point of it? Lately I've been thinking about all the people that work their life away and before they know it, they are old and about to die. What's the fun in that? So you can get a big house? Have lots of money? He who dies with the most money...still dies. Think about it, you have only one life (depending on what you believe). Why waste it. Why not go out and try to do everything once. Experience everything life has to offer. So, what about you guys?

I agree. Obviously you have to have at least have a half way decent job so you can support yourself and fund doing all the things you want to do, but there is a personal limit each person is willing to set for themselves as to how far they will take it. Some people become obsessed with getting a better job, making more money, etc. Even to the extent where some of these people neglect their families and children. I think it's sad, myself.

While only indirectly related to "life" as a whole, I think making money and saving money is very important, as is having nice things and spending portions of one's income. I don't remember all the statistics but most people in the U.S. live paycheck to paycheck which is just sad. One major health issue and they're pretty much screwed for life. Most people also carry an average of $8000 in credit card debt, another stupid no-no, particularly when they only pay the minimum. When I retire in 25 years, I will have several millions of dollars saved of which I'm well on my way, and the plan for me is not to spend it all, but leave it to my children when I die. And during that time, I'll have spent copious amounts of it on enjoying things in life like traveling, electronic gadgets, etc. There is no greater power than compounded interest.

Have you heard of the book Purpose Driven Life? It might answer some of the questions you have. I think it's by Rick Warren. Its a christian book, if its not your thing, cool. It answered alot of stuff for me personally.

I was just gonna post the same thing, my g/f turned me onto it and I went and had her pick it up for me a few days ago, I haven't gotten around to reading it yet though. I have heard good things about it. Hopefully it does answer some of my questions because I'm at a point in my life right now where I could give a shit if I'm alive or not, kinda wierd because I have ALMOST everything I want but yet I'm still not happy, I don't know WTF is going on with me right now, feeling this way really sucks.

Ryan, that's what I'm talking about. So many people do what they do so they can have all their toys and stuff. I was raised in a Christian home so I'm very familiar with it. I understand that whole purpose of life but I just think its funny how many people put so much importance on things that dont matter. I dunno what it is. Lately, I have just started to really think about life. How short it really is and how fast it goes. You dont even realize it. Too many people put status in front of everything. Who cares? Why not just enjoy life. Spend as much time with friends and family and take advantage of every moment.

Nick, my goal wasnt to make you depressed. People always say "O I'll do that next year" or "Ill try doing that next time". Screw that. There is no time like now to do/try anything. If you keep saying that, you'll never get anything done or experience anything.

I recommend M@ be banned for not being serious. Doogie's post was ok because it an actual sentence.

Those people that you are talking about, that's America!
Don't you see?we want riches, so we work. and keep working to get there...
But if you freeload. then you are a loser.. you can't buy a cup of freaking coffee without cash...
if you really think about it...try and put it into perspective like I do..
I put myself in exactly the same position... only 100 or maybe even 200 years ago... what would I really be doing and would I survive?
You have to understand where we've been to understand where we're going?
try that one dude?
Gimme some feedback and think about it good!

Dave you and I touched upon this. I have realized I am almost 20 already. I am pushing life hard right now. Partying with friends, starting my own business, pushing school, building up a nice place. Some people say I am too young and am going to burn myself out... nonsense. There is always bigger, and always better. I am striving for it and it always gives me something to look for.

I found the best thing. If you are bored with life. Change something! Sell your car. Buy a new one. Move to a different apartment. Start school. Stop school. Start partying. Start a business. Get a change going on. :]

I think you are starting to get the idea!
We must keep striving for what we need.. dumb... Yes.. outragious.. yes.. but we must strive on.. and that is what we are... go to the limit and find yourself..maybe a crazy idea?but who gives a fuck? go fer it

i used to have that view. A few years back, me and a friend made a pact that when we turned 45, we would go out with a bang. Get rich or die tryin. Like, a bank or something. I lived pretty fast for a few years. Bounced from place to place, new woman all the time, met lotsa new faces. Now I'm a little older. I have kids (one still needs to pop out, due is the 3rd of Jan). I see my daughter, who is 3. I tell her all the time to things she asks to do, like drive, play with swords, ride a motorcycle. I tell her, "when you get bigger" of the like. Now, she tells ME, "I can do that when I get older?".

So, in light of the live fast, go out and party, die young; as opposed to the sparkle and fade...I think I'll stick around. I want to be something to my children. But if I was younger....

Yeah, I don't have any kids and I've been working since I was 14. I was an assistant manager at a dry cleaners when I was 16. I just feel like there should be more to life than just sitting, working, having a 30 yr mortgage, etc. That just sounds way too boring for me.

Lol, I feel ya there! But I think my kids will appreciate it when they are older. I will hopefully be taking them to Europe and other vacations, but its now they're time to shine. I had my chance. I still have wanderlust in me, but, I couldn't leave my family, and life on the road just sucks for a child. My life goal is to give them the best life possible...if it kills me.

Kids definitely put a new ingredient to the mix. If i had a kid, Im sure i'd have a whole different outlook on life.

Ditto on the life with no kids. I walked away from a lot of shit when I had my first. They both have their perks! :)
