I personally think the person selling whatever it is clearly has an idea of how much they want for what theyre selling. It's stupid because then you make an offer and they dont want lowballing or then they tell you how much they were looking to get when they could have just posted it. waste of time!! I dont know, i dont have a car right now and my wife dropped me off at work way early and i'm bored. but yeah, just something i was thinking about.

:werd: in these cases the seller is just hoping that you don't have a clue how much the item is worth, and that they can rape you. to fight it, when they say 'make offer' -- tell 'em 1/1000th of an actual fair price.

I agree 100%...
make me an offer = low ball
I think every fs post should have a asking price... then OBO

I'm with you on that one. But if you think about it they are just holding up their sale.

However, people on forums are cheap and they are also idiots about it. No matter if you list a firm price, an OBO price, or "make offer", you are going to get some clown ask "what's the lowest you'll take for it?" or make some pathetically low offer.

Yea, I worked on a car lot and we had a jeep that sat off to the side and we had MAKE OFFER on the windows and my boss wouldnt take any less that $3500 it was the most retarded thing!

I agree, and I don't like to deal with bargaining with people. That's why I just put stuff on ebay and link to it, listing my reserve. That way I don't have to deal with people about pricing, they can just bid on it if they want it.
Edit - And even doing that I get people asking what the least $ I would take for stuff is.

Stupid people make me sick! This is why I try not to sell or buy on forums. Like rmcdaniels said Ebay. Thet's where I sell and I almost always get my car parts from. It's a matter of finding the right person to buy from. Selling, if they want it they'll buy it, simple as that. Never had a problom either way.

I'll tell you the worst... try selling a car on craigslist.
No I don't want to trade for massages, no I don't want a "master plumber's services for life" no I won't take half of what I'm asking.
I figure these days, you have to ask waaay more than you want. 'Cause the asshole that buys it won't be happy unless he feels like he's talked you down a couple grand.
I hate hagglers.

I have been guilty of this a couple of times. The only time I do this is when I really don't know the value of the item, and don't want to look like a thief for lowass prices, or a jackass with ridiculous prices. Something to keep in mind though.

the reason people do things like this is because in general, as americans we SUCK at haggling prices.
I personally consider it an insult to ask, or to be asked what the lowest price is for a good or service, which leads me to another rant about why as consumers, we americans are so afraid of paying someone a FAIR profit for goods or services. I know that saving money is cool, but really when someone sells somethign at little or no profit, truely NO ONE wins.
I work at a dealership and i have noticed something, those that pay the biggest profit are the happiest customers ever, and those that got the best deal are never happy (because everytime they bitched at the price they were rewarded for bitching, just like a kid rewarded for throwing a temper tantrum) and consequently those are also the same customers that call and complain the most.
