View Full Version : Might sell the vette

Brian

It pains me to even type this, but I have an opportunity to pick up a house at a bargain price with enough equity to buy a couple corvette's. If I go through with it i'm looking at A Hummer H3. It would cut my payment by a LARGE amount and give me cargo room/4 wheel drive. I think this winter is going to be a bad one so that's another bonus.

I would probably buy another sports car in a couple years, but this would be a better financial move in the mean time. I thought about getting a subaru or whatever, but buying a car would just piss me off after having the vette for the past year and a half. I think the only way to make myself happy is to get something completely non sporty for now lol.

Ihaven't decided on anything yet. I'm going to go look around tomorrow and see whats out there in that price range. I'll get another vette in a couple years.

Brian

What else should I look at tomorrow?

Acura TL comes to mind
Subaru Legacy (how ironic since I already had one)
BMW X3
Jeep

what else can you guys think of?

Must be AWD or 4WD. Price range low to mid 30's.

If you get an H3 you have to lift it and go wheeling with us. I've never even met you yet. That alone should be an incentive.

Get a Land Rover Defender 90!

Brian
09-21-2006, 05:39 PM
I think i'll avoid some of the places you guys went the last time you posted pictures lol. It would be fun to get something different. I've had so many cars that it might be time to switch it up. (and my dream has always been to hang out with stu)

Those pictures were an accident though. A stock H3 could do almost everything we've ever done. You should check into a 2007 Unlimited Wrangler Rubicon. It's got 4 doors and a small bed/rear hatch area.

Factory front and rear lockers and shortish wheel base FTW!

I used to love those things. That was my dream vehicle when I was like 17.

Get a Land Rover Defender 90!

THanks, i'll take a look at one. My business partner is always talking about one for his next vehicle.

H3 = GH3Y

get a H1... go old school

stu
09-21-2006, 06:05 PM
Yeah get an H1. They are a conundrum. They only fit on highways, yet can barely do the speed limit on the freeway....

Skaterkid
09-21-2006, 06:08 PM
If you're looking at an H3, why not get an Xterra or a Toyota 4Runner/FJ? Personally, I'd go back to the Legacy GT.

stu
09-21-2006, 06:17 PM
I like the H3 the best out of all the Hummers as far as having a personal vehicle goes. H1's are fucking stupid as a personal car. No room, no reliability, etc. I need to look into the H3's a little more as I know next to nothing about them.

Skaterkid
09-21-2006, 06:21 PM
An H3 is a Chevy Colorado with a different body and the suspension/drivetrain is optimized for off roading. I think it looks dumb, its slower than all its competitors and it has huge blind spots.

Have you seen the newer Xterra or 4runner, they are oversized and rather ugly now not to mention the 05 Xterra was probably one of the worst vehicles I've ever driven on a snowy road.

The Acura RDX would fit the bill better than an X3

Fuck an H3... yuppy mobile.... There is a guy at work selling his H1 it sits on 40 inch tires and is very trail ready. Can tow most things you throw at it. Just dont be afraid to flinch at gas prices... lol

I disagree with an 07 rubi unlimited... Spend the money get a used one that has all the toys already added.. Building a 4x4 makes building an import look supa cheap.

Brian
09-22-2006, 08:26 AM
I don't like the honda fit or the rdx (besides the engine I find it ugly). I might look at an A4 or STi as well. There are quite a few options in my price range the more i;m looking around. Any SUV I buy is unlikely to see much off road use so that isn't much of a concern for me. That's one reason I was looking at the H3. With leather and such it was pretty nice interior wise, plus gm has 0 percent financing on them for 60 months. It's hard to pass up something like that.

Yeah,I'm a little iffy on the new frontend design on the Xterra but 265hp is nice but they are quite capable off road and available with a 5 speed.

The new 4Runner would be a good choice since you do get Toyota quality (which the H3 cannot even come close to) but it won't go as far off road w/o a few mild mods since Toyota started to tame (lowered and lockerless) the 4Runner after the '00 model year. Fortunatly the new FJ is the more capable version of the 4Runner but it does have "love it or leave it" styling.

The 07 has a larger engine and 20 more hp than the 06's from what they told me yesterday.

the xterra in numerous car comparisons was ranked the best suv all around for street driving, comfortability, decent mileage, and off road capabilities. not that it ranked the highest in all of those but combined many determined it was the best choice. it definitly performed better than the H3 and the toyota lookalike.

Brian

I just don't like the interior of the xterra. Wish they offered leather

Here's a comparison between the Toyota and the Nissan and guess who comes out on top?

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/VideosGalleryIndex#8

15.9 in the 1/4 for the FJ and 19mpg real world driving vs 15 for the H3. The Nissan is still kinda cool but the look of the FJ,while still retro, makes the Nissan look a little dated.

The FJ is enjoying a little of the celebrity as when the brief production of the real Type Rs was in full swing and the first year of the WRX coming to our shores. The FJ does have the gawk factor at the moment.

FJ looks like an Element on steroids. The new 4Runner has my vote as I've actually had the chance to drive one. With heated leather, moon roof, tele wheel and a more powerfull 4.0L V6... I was rather impressed! PLUS: RevTek has a simple & affordable lift kit for them that makes them look just plain sexxy!

While I can't afford the 4Runner, I've been looking for a Tacoma to trade the Chevy in on.

It's coming up on 60k miles... which is beginning to worry me!

Brian
09-22-2006, 03:09 PM
the 4runner with decent options is above 40K though.

Brian

lol, no of course not, but I do prefer to buy new. I'm giving up a corvette so I at least need some luxury to make up for that.

If you are not 4 wheeling, why pay to fuel a truck or suv? Get an A4 Avant. Cargo space, awd, class, nice interior, good gas mileage, fun to drive, not too expensive.

Brian
09-22-2006, 05:26 PM
I'm actually looking at an A4 Sedan. My mom had a rental with dsg and the 2.0T a while back. It was real nice to drive. It would be nice to get decent gas mileage again lol.

Lots of options in this price range. I'm not going to rush it though since the house isn't going tobe ready for another couple months.

Over at Burt Toyota I saw some nice '06 SE 4Runners going for around $33k nicely equipped.
I do also think if you're going to buy an SUV make sure you have real use for one since they can be overkill for the average person.

Brian
09-23-2006, 07:21 PM
That;s what i'm thinking as well. I don't know that I would really have a need for an suv. I'm going to go look at the A4 this week along with a few other cars. No rush, i'll just shop around for a bit.

Buy an Sti from my roommate. He'll give you the best deal in the state and deliver it to you if needed. There is the new Limited Sti with heated seats, sunroof etc that he said he can hook you up with if your wanting more creature comforts. And he can locate an '06 for a good deal too.
PM me if you want to talk to him.

The H3 looks like a Jeep Comander on Crack just add wider fender flares and there you go.

Personally I would suggest a STR-8 Grand Cherokee then you could have something very sporty and AWD?

The new Porche dealership in Motor City has a 2004 S4 that's all kinds of sexxy!

If it's still there during my weekend, I'll have to go and check it out!

420 HP that is pretty close to your vette and add AWD and maybe cheaper insurance?

lol man when I first read about you considering selling the C6 I was like WTF!? Now I can probably relate as I've been considering of selling the TT Z even before it was turbo'd. I absolutely love the car but I'm starting to look towards a house now and bigger and better things. Crazy how stuff works out lol.
