Im looking for a compact, semi-inexpensive (less than 450 or so) pistol. Ive basically narrowed it down to the Ruger P99 and the S&W Sw40(ve) sigma. Id like to stick with a 40 cal, as the 9mm versions just lack the uummph that I want. Anyone have any input? Ive found both guns for less thatn $350 brand new. Thanks

I have the S&W .40. I love it. Really easy to break down and clean. It also has removeable sights and tactical rail. The only thing I don't like is the trigger but I plan on getting a new one. It's too stiff for my liking.

yea, there were lots of issues with the trigger. Apparently the newer models were better tho right? The V and VE's, which started in 2000 I think.

I dunno. I got mine brand new about 6 months ago or so. The trigger works fine it just takes alot of pressure to squeeze it.

Yes, the old Sigma series had some issues, but the new Sigma series started around 1999 or 2000, and that's what Dave_L has... SW40VE.

I have the SW9VE myself and love it. It's well balanced, easy to tear-down, good quality, and has good ammo capacity (mags hold 16 for 9mm or 14 for .40). The trigger pull is a little unusual and heavy... I like it, but it seems that a lot of people don't. I'd suggest shooting one, or at least dry-firing it before you buy it. The only issues I've had are that extra magazines are hard to find unless you go online, and it's accessory rail is apparently not compatibile with most others. Neither of which is a real problem, because you can find what you need on the Internet.

sweet thanks for the replies. Im not a fan of the stock ruger grips 1 bit. I think they are incredibly stupid and uncomfortable looking.

I think my decision is made and Ill go with the Sigma.

The Beretta Px4 Storm is offered in a .40 S&W. I prefer the feel and layout of that in my hands over anything else, but that's just me.

I like the px4 storm...ALOT, and I actually plan on getting one soon, but the price is a bit to high for me now, and its a larger pistol as well.

Glocks, im not personally a fan of glocks. They are arguably the best pistol in the world, and my brother and dad both carry them while on duty, but me, im just not a fan of them. So I wont be buying one.

Actually, the PX4 isn't but about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch larger than my 9mm Beretta Cougar. $420 I saw through one of the broker websites (in the other thread), and I got mine for $499 at Gander Mtn. and they gave me a $100 gift card.

My ruger is rock solid. Rediculously rock solid and is IMO probably the most reliable gun i own. However, If you're not opposed to a 45, the springfield armory mil spec 1911 is 399 last time i saw at gander, and is one hell of a weapon.
