View Full Version : Boost between shifts

Ok so I ran the car pretty hard tonight against steve. I noticed that my first run my turbo remained spooled for the 1-2 shift, but on the second run it lost power for a second. Will a better diverter valve help with this? does the GFB DV that's a 50/50 atmosphere/recirc screw up the air/fuel ratio at all? nolimit: Which GFB did you end up with?

Cool i'll check that sucker out. I might also give a n75 race valve a try. I hear you can hit around 23 psi with one of those and hold 15-17 at redline. Should be good for a few more hp....

your talking about the ecs n75 valve right? it looks like a good way to get a bit more boost

so howd you do agains steve?

Yeah the ecs n75 race valve. They say you can get 3 more psi on average. I need to find a 2 bar boost gauge.

I was really surprised when I raced steve......so was he. I beat him the first time from a roll. The second time he pulled a bit on me from a roll. The second one is where I felt the turbo lose some boost between the 1-2 shift. I think the car would be more consistent with an aftermarket dv if that helps the spool between shifts. I also raced ted and pulled a couple cars on him.

lets not bring up the last race though dude;) :p

On a side note I think steve's car is running very rich. We has just hooked up a few things to it. Still, I can't complain.

no joke man, those things are quick. I am still very suprised at them. I honestly think they are way underrated in horsepower...........with some mods you are gonna be tough to mess with......

Hector wanted a run against everyone. (He was shooting for Rico) I can't wait to see that car with some mods. It does pull pretty strong.

What's a diverter valve? Is the car an automatic? If so, and you are losing boost between shifts, is the car equipped with traction control?

I think he's referring to the bypass valve.

The dv is like a bov but it puts the boost pressure back through the intake manifold. Try swiching the dv so that the 2 big tubes go into the opposite ones. At altitude, it holds boost better. It doesn't help as much on aftermarket dv's but it defenitly helps. What color is your dub?

maybe you should remind steve the gas pedal is on the right, lol:rofl: the turbo sometimes doesnt stay spooled between shifts for me also. a different dv will be comming soon.

john, it's a 5 speed, and as he said it's a bypass valve that vents back into the intake.

tyler, thanks, i'll try that with the dv until I can get a forge or something along those lines. The car is silver btw.

BOVs are supposed to vent back into the intake. Are you actaully venting it back into the intake manifold, as in where all the boost pressure lives?

If so, interesting setup. Every other setup I've seen returns the vented air back into the system between the MAF and the compressor.

I think it vents after the MAF which is why it screws up your air/fuel if you vent it to atmosphere just like a dsm, but it isn't a BOV. A lot of people have problems trying to use a BOV on these cars because it trips a cel. They just call them a dump valve or DV.

For some reason, they call it a DV on German cars. Bypass valve, etc..., all the same.

I went with the Hybrid DV, it only vents excess boost, so it doesn't give you a CEL or anything like that.

Forge is good too, I just wanted more turbo sound. For some reason, people on VW boards seem like they're ashamed of turbo and don't want anyone to hear it or something, so there's not much good talk about them. But hell, I'll vouch for it. If you come down for a clash, let me know and I'll let you check it out

it's pretty much the same thing. This just dumps back into the intake. I think they both function about the same way though. Each has a piston that vents when vacuum appears on one end.

Right, most stock valves don't vent into atmosphere. As I've always seen them called a Bypass valve (Like turboxs) or a diverter valve

If any of you guys are using the Forge valves make sure to periodically regrease it with mobile 1 grease......
