What's the highest compression I can go using pump gas? 12:1,
12.5:1 or 13:1?????

Turbo? N/A? What motor/mods/etc?

N/A LS/VTEC

Maybe 12:1 on pump gas on an ls vtec....but I dont know if that would be all that reliable.

Even for an N/A isn't that pretty high compression for pump gas? I'm clueless, as I'm at 8.5:1 and the motor is boosted.

I know I can go up to 12:1 safely but I would really like to go to the limit

Talk to AcuraBro, I think he at one time had 12.5 on 91 octane in an LS\Vtec and it was detonating pretty heavily, and 93 octane may not have been much better, and that was with timing all the way down.

honestly man do your research. I don't think you will be "safe" from detonation at that compression level..........Obviously your fuel system will need upgrading and tuning.

i have a similar setup as the ls/vtec(b20/vtec)
and i was detonating at idle with 9 to 1 compression on 240 cc injectors.. i got 310 rc's and it ran much better, but on the dyno i came up pretty lean (15 to 1) below 5800 rpms.. i suspect the 310 werent big enough still.. now i have a jrsc on and fmu
the 310's are not cutting it(goes way lean under boost)
i think i need 420's or more.. my fuel pressure is over 80 with detonation at 8lbs boost.. just keep in mind that you may need to dyno the car to tune it right especially at 12 to 1 or higher..:D

I already ordered the 310 RC injectors and plan on dynoing the car once the pistons are in just not sure witch compression to go with up here.

Your location says So Cal, but I see you are in the Army, did you move to Co Springs? I would recomend 12:1 as an absolute max.

ya I use to live in so cal but now I'm over here in your shitty air being a All Motor head losing a second in the 1/4 mile. Now im at carson.

Just adding fuel isn't going to stop detonation. It will help, but octane will help more. A lot more. If you run big compression pistons, you'd probably better be ready to pay big $$ at the pump.

I know that story. Now that my car is feeling good, I can't hardly bear to put pump gas in the tank and have to turn the boost down. If you wanna play, you gotta pay. :)

IMHO.

amen brother!!:p
i hope boost is all it's cracked up to be for me..
i hope so!!:D

were do you guys recommend having the car dynoed and tuned at?

tuning is up to you!
you can do a dyno run for about 1 hour at dynapro.. i need to look up the address(it's on 52nd in arvada)i think the # is (303)455-2443. just ask for Bear. He's a cool guy and real good about advise..

how far are they from the springs? And do you know how much they cost? Thanks for all your guys help i'm new here and it just makes it that much harder to find good shops and peeps.

Why not go for some CTR or ITR pistons and a thin metal head gasket, I think CTR or ITR compression is somewhere around 11.0:1. I know you can pick up a set for about $320 to $400.

I remember hearing that 11.5:1 is the max for 91 octane. I'm pretty sure that's at sea level, so you might be able to get away with more up here, but probably not much.

I wouldn't go with those in an ls/vtec here.
ctr's will put you at like 12.2 with stock headgasket, and type-r's will be like low 11's.
P30 would be the way to go, it's like 11.5:1 with stock headgasket and a stock overbore.
This is all based on the fact that your using a b16 head too.
The thing with the stock pistons and that high ass compression is going to be the sharp edges on the pistons.
