View Full Version : Cone FIlter

Tonight I took out the top of the stock air box and placed a k&n cone filter on the end of the maf. I used a breather filter for the line that used to go into the air box. The car has a deeper growl to it, the turbo is much louder, and you can hear the dump valve very well now. As for performance I can't really say. I haven't taken the car to redline yet. I did punch it from 4k with traction control offb and spun the hell out of the tires.
Now i'm thinking of maybe doing some basic bolt-ons and holding off on the apr kit for a while. I'm just nervous about putting 368hp on a car that's only a few months old....

Brian,
Get a vag and log the maf for flow. I'm not sure about your 1.8T, but in the S4 a cone filter actually HURTS performance. Audi/VW usually engineer the airboxes very well for flow and cold air. The Bypass valve is also a necessary piece as converting it to a BOV will allow metered air to escape thereby causing a rich condition. just an FYI...

if the cone filter is where the stock airbox is it will probably hurt more than anything even though it gives it a sweet sound. It will just get heat soaked eaiser. get a true cai which will put the filter down in the lower right vent or cut the outside part of the airbox. the intake, or cutting it will produce a similar sound.
so have you launched hard yet? hows that torque treating ya?

The one push unlocking all the dors mod?? Sounds good :)
Jeff, i'm actually using a couple of intake pieces from my civic. I'm working on cutting here and there to get the pieces to push the filter right up into the corner. Should be a pretty good CAI once i'm done. Then i'll probably use a vag on it and see if it is actually doing anything ;).
I haven't launched the car yet although i've been tempted. I still haven't taken the car past 5k either. The power is very nice though. Do you usually drive with asr off? Your going to have to give me some launching pointers at the next club clash.
