WHere can I get a set of lowering springs for the car. I thought about coilovers, but honestly I NEVER adjusted them in the 3 years I had my SI so i doubt i'm going to now on this car. What's a good drop to go with for a nice clean look?
Thanks guys

Just looking at the car I'd go no more than 1.5". Don't want it to be "slammed", just have a nice tuner look.

If you want a minimal drop, get the H&R sport springs. You can use the stock VW sport shocks on your car too, and it'll still ride ok. How firm of a ride do you want? I know where to get a killer price on the springs too...

Hmmm whats the next lowest after the H&R's? Do you know where I can see some pictures of vw's with them? I just want to tighten up the soft handling and get rid of this wheel gap.

I'll post some picts in a minute. The H&R sport are 1.5 front and 1.4 rear. I'm getting the race springs, which are 2.0 in the front and 1.7 in the back. The sport are about 15% stiffer, and the race are about 100%.

i think im going with the h&r cup kit when i get it done. if you go much lower than 2" youll need an aftermarket front sway bar cause the stock one will rub.

Do you know if it rubs with the H&R Race springs?

The race springs shouldn't be a problem. They've always suggested that with H&R springs, but not really with other companies. I've also heard that it's not a problem with 1.8T's, more with VR6 and 2.0's. I know a lot of people that have gone lower than 2.0in and haven't heard a problem, not like upgraded sway bars are bad, tho...

Is the ride as harsh as some say or are they just being weenies...lol. I had a good 2.x drop on my SI with ground control coilivers and that didn't really bother me. SOunds like i'm probably going to go with the race springs. parts4vws.com has a pretty good price on them. Anywhere else I should price before I go for them?
I had bigger sway bars on my last GTI, they made a huge difference. I just want to get the engine up to [par before I dip into the handling much.

Get them from www.optionsautosalon.com
They have the best price. The Potters (Parts4vws.com) are really good too, but options is cheaper.

lol.... I just got them in an hour or so ago. I have to go to work now though :(. I already got the rear set installed. It was super super easy. Not looking forward to the front though. Man does the car ever look better. I can't wait to get the front done.

Did you get your motor mounts?
Brian

no, I ordered today. He said they would be here by friday though
Do you have to get new motor mounts when doing springs?

No, they just help with wheel hop on the track. 1.8t's have mad wheel hop.
Do you guys think it would be better to wait to get shocks and springs at the same time?
Or would I be alright with just springs and the stock shocks for about 6 months?
I'm looking at getting Billstein shocks and the H&R race springs.

I bet the wheel hop isn't as bad as my civic ;). Man I actually had pieces of the dash fly apart in that car .
If you can afford to get the shocks at the same time it would be better. I decided not to and will just see how long the stock ones hold up. WIth a 2 inch or lower drop it would probably be a good idea to go ahead and get a set. Not to menion that the front springs are a freakin bitch to do.......

How does the rear feel so far? Bouncy, etc...? I also found out on the front how you're supposed to have a spreader, you could take like a hex or something and file it down so it's flat like a screwdriver, stick it in and turn it to spread that part. Good luck!
