These are from probably 10 years ago, and I took them with a shitty disc camera with film that had been in it for probably 6 years. Also, we only had a couple flashlights and the cameras puny flash, so it's amazing they came out at all.

:werd: Or even know what they are for that matter.

It was the one and only film camera I've owned. I think I bought it myself when I was 13 or 14.

What was really crazy is that I loaded the disc in it took like one picture, and forgot I even had the camera. I found it shortly before we went to the silos that particular time, so I brought it expecting the pictures to not come out at all. Kinda grainy, but not as bad as I thought they would be.

I've heard of people buying old silos from the government. I wonder how much they would cost.

yeah i saw some houses on tv that someone converted it was pretty sweet. i had no idea those were even there and i lived so close.

The cost of the land and the silo would only be a small fraction of what it would take to make it safe and habitable. I would guess in the millions of dollars after the basic purchase price.

Wouldn't it make a perfect club though? With all the different branchs and areas, you'd have people come from around the country I bet. Now where do I get that kind of startup capital? :D

Cool. That's one of the Titan 1 sites by Chris and Stu's house. They have another one that's closer. I found it on Google Earth the other day. We should go check this stuff out.

I don't believe it is if they are decomissioned. Don't quote me on that though.

From what I remember my friends telling me, it's basically trespassing on federal property, which is still pretty serious.

The cops would linger along the road when they saw a car parked there. The absolute best way is to have someone that is willing to just drop off a group and will come back later to pick up. That way they have no idea you are even out there.

I would be willing to give it a shot if we could find someone to drop us off. It's too risky leaving a car on the road there. I'm pretty sure I could find the entrance again. Whether or not it is safely jammed open is another story completely. If that hatch were to come down while you were inside, you would be uber fucked. I doubt 10 dudes could push it open, not to mention you are standing 15 feet up a ladder while trying to do this.

I always wanted to go back with good camera equipment to take some good pictures. But you have to travel kinda light.

Not to mention you are breathing some seriously stale air, there could be pockets of unbreathable gases that leaked through the no longer sealed walls, and the fact that there is probably plenty of asbestos floating in the air to suck in. As fucking cool as it is to go in there, it is kinda dangerous.

See the aerial pics that I posted. A closer look shows a gap in the fence for the road, so it should be accessable. This is also almost walking distance from Chris and Stu's house. This would be best as a daytime mission... although I have 15 million candle power at my disposal (the spot light you saw before was only 2 million), even just flash lights and car headlights would just attract too much attention at night.

Is there a lock on the fence? How about the Warning signs they govt. uses? If not and the gate is open then you won't be shot on sight.

I saw the same show you all were talking about when the guy bought one and turned it into a house. He got the silo and land for something like 25k and then the build was like 1 million but he said he could have done it for less if it were closer to town and didn't want some of the more expensive things. So yes to build one can be a lot but a basic build up there would start where you want and go up!! The government still has quite a few of these up for sale too. My friends dad says you can just contact the Pentagons Public Relations Desk and they can direct your call.

Is there a lock on the fence? ...

It appears that the fence is pretty lacking. It looks like it has collapsed in several areas, and I don't see any gate blocking the road...

This then makes it hard for the military to come after you yet it can still be trespassing. It would be hard to call it criminal trespassing as you didn't have to break in to get there. I doubt the Army/Air Force is going to send a SF team to kill you over this!! I say have fun and get those tetanus shots before you go.

Ok, so it's exactly 5 miles from your house to the fence of the site... Maybe not quite a normal walking distance, but it's still close.

I linked this to someone on another local forum and he said...

I've been over there a few times. So many people have gotten into it that they've sealed every way in possible. I went over there with a bunch of blueprints and stuff. Every way in is sealed or collapsed.

If you guys are making a trip, I'd recommend going to the "less easiest to get to"

From what I've seen, the closest ones are the most visited = most trashed = most watched.

smithz

That fence never used to be there. We would park on Quincy, easily hop a fence that ran along Quincy and just walk across the fields to it. If that guy has been out there more recently, then it may have been totally sealed off. Not by the fence, but all they would have to do it pour concrete over the hatches. It's not like there's a million ways inside. We always entered through one hatch, the closest to the steel barn (I think it's the one in your third pic). Every time we went someone had jammed railroad ties in the hatch's hinge to keep it open. But I still have no idea how they got it open in the first place without using hydraulic jacks or something. If he says it's sealed up, and he knew of more entrances then I did, it's probably a lost cause. You should find out how long ago it was that he was there.

i'd be down to go, i'd take a resperator my 35mm lens bag a tripod and assorted lights, maybe camping lantern that would be the brightest

places like that are photography goldmines, when i lived in washington there were alot of cool turn of the century sea forts, used in wwI and wwII, i found a bunker that wasnt marked 2 miles inland, it was crazy i sqeezed into the opening which was barely big enough to get in, then i went down 3 flights of steep stairs into a basement bunker which had'nt been opened for public use. there was a looooong dark and cloudy hallway that went on for easily 300yards, with rooms on both sides of the coridor, it was kinda spooky but cool at the same time, but the thought of the air made me want to leave

old military shit from ww2 and the cold war is crazy to explor

Yes, it' used to be a felony trespass on Federal property if you were caught. Not sure about now. It's possible it's owned by private party and still for sale, so I would imagine that would be a much less serious trespassing offense.

It was pretty stupid when we used to go do that 10 years ago. Several times we had to hide in the fields on the way out because there was a cop parked on the road waiting for us to come out. They would search back and forth with those side spotlights they have. I think the longest was shy of an hour if I remember right, I think that was the last time I went.
