A guy I work with wants to sell his E36 M3. I told him about craig's list, but I've never used it before, so I was wondering if anyone that has sold a car through it before could offer any do's and don'ts. Thanks for any help.
BTW, this car is a SUPER low milage 2002 and has been garaged most of it's life. I'll post a link in FS when he gets the ad up. If anyone is interested let me know...

Maybe also try autotrader and/or cars.com They charge, though, I believe.

Post pics, pics sell. Have him figure out what his lowest price would be and add some $$ to it to use as a negotiating buffer. Post pics. Yes, I said it again.
Tell him to clean the car very good before he takes pics. He'll have to try to keep the car clean as much as possible.

Don't fall for the money order scam. Just use common sense.

Craigslist is a good way to sell, but its a scammers haven, just don't be an idiot and buy into something that is 'too good to be true'

I meant E46.... begin the crucification.
Here's the info I have so far...
2002 E46 M3, whatever their metallic black paint is called, I don't remember.
Here's the kicker.... 59xx fucking miles. No I'm not missing an x. Less than 6K miles.
It's basically like buying a brand new one. We looked up KBB and it was saying like $37K. He said he paid like $60ish for it brand new. It's been driven, but spent most of it's life in a garage.
He's selling it because he's tired of being worried about it everywhere he goes, and hardly ever driving it. I would buy it in a second if I could easily sell my car, and didn't know I'd lose my license within a month.
Let me know if you know of anyone that is seriously interested in it.

Hehehe. Yeah, lately I've been wishing I hadnt done what I've done to the STI. It would be easier to sell off and pick up something like an M3 or that Cayman S that I've been wanting. *sigh*
But once I go out for a drive, it's not so bad.

That thing is pretty fast. Copilot was awesome. I might beg you to do that again for the next drive. It was alot funner than driving mine! :D
But serious, Hung, ask people at your work. Engineers are rich aren't they?
I'd say $37K is a pretty damn good deal for a practically new M3. Wonder if Dave want to upgrage? :D

Hehehe, alot of the engineers are worried for their jobs.

Tell me about it man...
CL is good for free ads, lots of lowballers but it's free and worth a shot for anything I'd say. I've sold a few cars through it.

Have you co-worker post it on bimmerforums.com, e46fanatics.com and m3forum.com. might work out better then craigslist as long as he has detailed pics and is firm on his price. there will be some lowballer offers, but there are also some members willing to fork out the cash for a seriously low mileage, unmolested m3. I say he start it at 40-41k and it should sell, set the price at 38k and it should sell fairly quick.
I've not sold one, but I bought my current car from a craigslist posting.

I have sold many cars on Craigslist. Get alot of response etc. you will get alot of lowballers so price it a bit higher than you normally would. But so far so good for me and there are usually alot of people with money on there.

James, PMs sent. Email him for more details/phone number.
He was syked when I told him I already had a potential buyer for him.
Steve, if for some reason it doesn't work out with James, I'll hit you up to post it on those other forums.

Good thing you are an adult and realize that we don't always get what we want.
James would have seen the thread eventually anyways... I intended to actually post it in the FS section once Bijan had the ad and pics up on craig's list.

Ok ok. But I demand $100 for attending your cruise. So now we're even.
If James doesn't end up buying it, I seriously doubt he's going to have a hard time trying to find someone else that does. It would just be sweet if James did get it since he's part of the HAI kr00 and all.

I have sold my Volvo 240 Diesel and my '92 Nissan Stanza XE on Craigslist before.
It's free so it doesn't hurt, but expect plenty of cheap Jews contacting you moreso than Autotrader.
