So I just moved up to denver from near Lubbock texas and I have to say I love this area much more. Haven't met many car people but I know they're there. Around where i'm from there is NOTHING; a few pay to play tool bags with EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVOs and other pay to play cocks and a plethora of ricers; no real enthusiasts import or dumbestic :p
Anyway I just thought i'd post some pictures of my car nicknamed the Honda of FuryŽ (friend's called it that and it stuck). It's a 90 Civic Si hatch with a full list of parts. currently it sits in west texas with no motor while I build up a B18A1 here to drop in it; i'm about 80% done collecting parts to get the motor built and dropped in. I plan on running it on E85 with high compression and boost.
The car started out life as a riced out ef si hatch with the stock d16a6 and a pos greddy bolt on kit w/ an FMU; the guy that owned it frag'd the tranny and blew the headgasket so he put in an crx HF 4spd and sold the car w/ the blown gasket. I fixed the head gasket and slowly transformed it and learned a lot along the way. Took me about 2.5 years; countless hours; not a lot of money and much cursing to get where I am. I wouldn't trade owning this car for anything and if I had to do it again I wouldn't hessitate; the experience I gained doing everything myself can't be bought. Aside from some machine work and friend's helping me out everything done to this car was done by me; I built the engines; I tuned the efi; i fabricated the turbo setup; i tweaked the suspension; i painted the car; i wired everything; diagnosed everything (helps that i'm a natural whiz at wiring :P) etc etc. This car is the ultimate DIY.
Unfortunately along the way i've killed a few motors; killed the orignial A6 when i busted the ringlands (shitty fmu = awful fuel management). I then replaced the pistons/rods on the cheap then spun a bearing after about 30 miles since I used the wrong sized bearing; I didnt know anything about bearing crush then; I thought all bearings were created equal :p that was a learning experience. I did hack the obd0 ecu at thaat time with turboedit and a techedge wideband. Replaced that motor a few months later with a full d16z6 I got in a trade. Killed a bearing in it after about 2k miles thanks to that greddy kit's mitsu turbo going south causing engine oil pressure to drop dangerously low. Rebuilt that motor with a new (to me) crank; eagle rods; srp pistons; endyn posts; rebuilt tranmsision; light clutch/flywheel; stock head; obd0 b16 tb etc etc. Then after getting that motor in and driving around NA for a while I built a SIGNIFICANTLY upgraded turbo setup w/ a built by myself ram horn; t3/t04e; bigger front mount; 2.5" ic piping; ripped out the obd0 shit and hard wired the car to obd1 to run crome (later crome pro) on. That setup lasted about 2500mi but again I spun a bearing when the motor overboosted. I had bost cut set to 15psi (way too high) and melted a wastegate pressure line so boost spiked and a combination of unbalanced crank; a lot of power and a worn out oil pump killed the #4 bearing. That engine death sucked big time but i parted everything out and bought most of the stuff to build up a B18a1. Ironically the day after this motor died my best friend from HS was killed in an awful motorcycle accident in Lubbock texas (life is sometimes so mean) which totally fucked me up for a while. I was supposed to go back to school but didnt as I was a wreck and sat around evaluating life since february up until about 3 weeks ago when I moved up here to colorado. I have a friend that's going to the school of mines and he leased a big house here and invited me to come up and get away from that cesspool of west texas. Best decision of my life I think, so now here i am.
Current list of mods from the ground up:
-15x6.5 rota slipstreams in bronze w/ yokahama avs es100
-intrax springs unknown rate ~ 2.5" drop
-tokiko illumina shocks
-mostly stock brakes -I have a set of nsx/itr calipers for up front (will use eg rotors and mod my si hubs to fit) and DA teg spindles w/ disks for the rear; full braided lines and a prelude master cylinder ready to go on when i get the car up here
-Car had a riced out 2 tone paint job when I got it so I painted it rustoleum flat-satin black, turned out great for a $30 weekend paintjob :)
-Engine will be: B18a1 stock block with GSR girdle; LS crank balanced and polished; 4340 forged h-beam rods w/ ARP bolts; .5mm over 10-11:1 forged pistons (most likely JE/SRP, haven't bought those yet); stock sleeves; may get some endyn block posts, I had good luck with those on my last motor
-Head will be lightly ported and polished by myself and checked on a local friend's flow bench :) Eventually the head will have a full valvetrain for good midrange power - fed by a stock LS intake for now with ~ 1000cc injectors (going to run E85) in a custom fuel rail my friend is machining at his work (CNC lathe :P); eventually when I get an AC tig welder i'll build myself a nice ITB setup
-Transmission will be a rebuilt by myself LS with an obx queef knockoff helical type LSD with an XTD molly flywheel and ceramitalic clutch (had great luck w/ that same setup on my last motor and its damn cheap) axles will be lifetime warantee vatozone jobs
-turbo/induction: top mount manifold built by myself; garrett t3/t04e .63ar stg3 turbine .5ar 57trim compressor w/ 2.5" charge piping and an 8x3x24 intercooler; ssqv chinese knockoff valve and 44mm knockoff tial wg. 3" downpipe and open atmosphere dump tube w/ 3" exhaust fab'd by myself
-Electronics & ETC: Car has been hardwired by myself to OBD1 and i'm running a converted p06 (with vetak y0 added) on crome pro with a moates ostrich rom emulator (so i can tune on the fly) being fed lambda signal by a techedge wideband. I'm currently working on a clamp/screw on microphone w/amp and headphones so i can listem to my motor while tuning to get timing dead on; I had a J&S safeguard on my last motor but with loose forged internals it would pick up a lot of noise so i'll be using my brain as a DSP instead. guages will be defi knockoffs w/ boost egt and full sweep electronic oil press and water temp. Ignition will remain stock for a while; nothign wrong w/ the stock honda inductive ignition.
